Just going thru my blood panel. Been looking online and can't seem to find info of what they are specifically looking for in blood protein total. Mine is 7.8 which is within normal range but towards high end.

Ok thank you Melissa! I haven't had a chance to chat with my Dr regarding results yet. Everything in the panel was in normal ranges, that result was just on high end. Can anyone tell me what exactly they are looking for with the metabolic blood panel. Is this where I would find tumor maker test results. I am not sure thAt has been done yet? Wondering when they do that? Is it before right before treatment? I have surgery in 1 1/2wks and then either chemo or radiation.

Most of us have blood worn done before every chemo if you're on a 3 week schedule. They are looking for changes & trends in addition to problems.

Likely a tumor marker test will not be in a normal blood panel. Many docs won't even order one of the tumor marker tests since they can be notoriously unreliable. My doc will order, but only to watch long term trends.

I had blood work done about a 1/2 hr before every chemo - 4 DD A/C (every 2 weeks) and 12 weekly Taxol.

I would think they are just checking your general health and making sure you don't have any underlying health problems that would complicate treatment. Tumor markers are definitely not included in a regular metabolic panel. Problems with kidneys, liver or bones can sometimes be indicated by general blood work
