Stage 3 breast cancer without lymph node involvement

i was diagnosed stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma with necrosis. Dr. said stage 3 is based on size only since i had 0/12 nodes involved. My tumor was 13.5 cm ulcerated. Is that strange for a tumor to be that big and no vascular or node involved? Not complaining just think some of the findings are odd. Also it is ER-, PgR- and KI67 of 95%. HER2 test is borderline. She also said she felt like it was more of a "surface tumor". What exactly does that mean? Not much was told to me so i am guessing i have a bad prognosis.

It sounds like you have a good prognosis based on those stats- no nodes involved? no vascular invasion? That's excellent news.

The other characteristics sound like you're a good candidate for chemo and that you should respond very well to it. I'm sorry that you haven't been better informed. Some Doctors are cautious about what they say and they end up saying too little- we fill in the blanks and fear the worst.

I agree with Techtonic. Get them to do additional testing on the HER2 status. I was Stage III, ER/PR negative but came back HER2+ on the re-testing so was able to get Herceptin & Perjeta.

Youare so lucky i had a small tumor 1.5 cm and 9 nodes go figure on that one.
