Can I just have it removed instead?

Hello! Just got my results today and my Dr is sending me to the surgeon for a biopsy...... It said there is a 2.0x 1.5cm(R breast & mildly hetergenously)and 2.0x1.6 cm(L breast) hypoechoic nodules corresponding to the palpable abnormality on mammogram with sonographic features of fibroadenomas ...also a 3x3 mm (L breast) cyst...birads 3....my doc didnt explain much as per usual ThumbsDown I have no idea if they're going to biopsy all of them of just the cyst....can they not just remove them instead? Is that an option?

    The problem with unnecessarily removing small benign tumors is that you create scarring in your breast that may obscure a true problem years from now on imaging. If a benign fibroadenoma is not so big that it bothers you or growing fast there is no reason to remove it. It doesn't "turn into" anything else, and if you have fibrocystic breasts you'reliable to have a new one the month after you whack out the ones you have now.

    Thank you...I never even considered that! I found the one in my R breast on May 16th and there was none in my left...a few days prior to the mammogram and US I found one in my left and the 3rd one I can't feel (they found it).....I know your not a Dr and not even sure if you're able to say...but would they biopsy all of them? Or just the cyst? Thank you

    In addition to what MelissaDallas said - remember that any surgery comes with many potential (but not often thought of) hazards. Even 'minor' (unnecessary or necessary) surgery can cause problems unrelated directly to the surgery.

    Talk to your Dr and Fons out what might be going on before 'jumping out of the pot into the fire'.

    Most Drs I know are not going to just 'cut out' something without knowing what they might be dealing with once surgery starts.

    If it is just a regular cyst why would they biopsy it? Plain cysts are benign. If it is big & hurts they can stick a needle in it and aspirate (drain) it, but they often fill up again. They biopsy complex or complicated cysts, but even those only have about a 2% chance of being associated with a malignancy.

    It was reccomended...there was no mention of anything else it was just biopsy....I'm adopted and dont know my family history so I'm not sure if that's why they're choosing this route instead of doing nothing?

    The cyst says Birads 3, so I think it must be the "appearance of fibroadenomas" place(s) that are to be biopsied. You should make your doctor clarify what/why is being biopsied.

    My Dr is an ass ....sorry for the language ....I have MS (multiple sclerosis) and when I first went to him about it with symptoms he just brushed me off...so I went to a walk in doctor and he knew right away what was going on...he got the ball rolling for an MRI and appointment for Neurologist....I'm stuck with my GP however as there are no doctors in my town taking on patients....he's not very pleasant to talk to...If I don't have to go to him, I do go to walk in Dr's
