mapat, peanut butter is not good for us! I haven't yet read your links, but I have posted elsewhere about it in the past. And I feel especially strong about it because I was eating a lot of peanut butter prior to my re-dx!

    Here are some additional links:

dlb823 thanks for the links. I am familiar with aflotoxins, but had not considered the pesticides (due to soft shells) on growing peanuts. (Not to mention the added veggie oils, and usually sugars too, added to commercial peanut butters.) So if you must have peanut butter--take care of your liver, go organic, grind your own and refrigerate.

While I have been considering increasing my melatonin amount, I am wondering a couple of things. Does your body become dependent on it? Will the body not make as much if you are supplying it through supplements? Will you have to ease off it/gradually lower dosage when you decide to stop taking it? Or any 'withdrawal' symptoms?

These questions could actually apply to any supplements we might be taking.

Well I didn't increase the amount of melatonin I take (20mg), but I had been getting it from drugstores or walmart. Finally made it to a 'real' health food store, and bought a different brand. It didn't cost much more, but perhaps better quality; also is a timed-release formula. Anyway, where before I was getting up every two hours to go to the bathroom, on this new one, I slept for 3-4, sometimes 5 hours at a time! Much closer to my natural sleep cycle of three hours. Don't know if it really affects the cancer at all but I certainly feel so much more mentally alert during the day now. Wouldn't it be nice if all supplements actually had what they say on the label, with actual quality amounts??

When I took melatonin I was necessary to sleep it off or I was a log next morning. I took less and it helped. I am now taking in the afternoon so I will actually nap and heal - taking with raw hemp oil. But just a crumb, playing with what will work.

I am using supplementation and Western medicine to get through. Wish this thread was more active. But a lot of information from past posts.

Added echinacea to my supplements, supposed to help boost immune system. What I noticed is that I am not "cold" all the time (regardless of actual room temperature) like I had been for the past year and a half. My actual body temp, by thermometer is usually still only 97.3, which I have read is rather common for those with cancers.

    Hi there,

I've just started on Xeloda after trying NabPaclitaxel with no luck. I've had a recurrence after 12 years and it's in my lymph nodes supraclavicular and internal mammary but nowhere else. (this time I'm ER-, PR+, HER2-). It's changed from last time when I was also ER+. You ask about alternative medications and something I've been taking is bi-carb soda 1/2 teasoon x 3 times a day with 1 tablespoon molasses. My chest was tender before I started the chemo with the internal mammary lymph nodes inflamed I guess but the bi-carb worked really well and stopped all the inflamation. I tried this as they said not to take any ibruprofen. I also have apple cider vinegar each day. Just wondering if I should be taking the bi-carb though with the Xeloda as I read on the instructions not to take any antacid and bi-carb is used as an antacid. Were you on any alternative medicine while on Xeloda?

Petrea, I did a quick check for you on a website where you can find drug interactions listed. They don't show an issue with either bicarbonate of soda or ibuprofen and Xeloda. I take the latter all the time and have never heard of it being an issue with Xeloda.

    https://www.drugs.com/interactions-check.php?drug_...,490-228

Also, there should be an insert with your Xeloda telling you of any interactions you need to be aware of.

You might also want to ask that question or any others you have about Xeloda on the Xeloda thread here. Here's a link:

Petrea, that is great news about stopping the inflammation. IMO you are halfway there. I am concerned though about the dosage of baking soda so I looked it up and found this from a UK research organization at http://scienceblog.cancerresearchuk.org/2014/03/24/dont-believe-the-hype-10-persistent-cancer-myths-debunked/

"One estimate suggests that a dose of around 12 grams of baking soda per day (based on a 65 kg adult) would only be able to counteract the acid produced by a tumour roughly one cubic millimetre in size. But doses of more than about 30 grams per day are likely to cause severe health problems – you do the maths."

Maybe best to ask your doctor, especially if you weigh less than 65 kg, but also about interactions with Xeloda.

    Petrea,

    I agree with Heidihill.

Sodium bicarbonate - if you take 1/2 teaspoon three times a day - you are adding a fair bit of salt to your diet.

The problem is that your kidneys will compensate for pH changes pretty quick smart so it is difficult to get a lasting alkaline environment from ingested bicarbonate.

Having said that a diet that avoids acid and is alkaline based is supportive.

And I have taken sodium bicarbonate as you describe, after a tough work out - with the impression that I might get a transient benefit from it.

Does anyone know if hemp oil (raw CBD/CBDa) will lower the WBC?

I have read conflicting study reports and opinions and am left confused.

    Thanks.

Asked late last night..... and then

EDITED - appt w MO this morning. Asked him. He said absolutely the hemp oil is very good for the immune system. And so I will continue.

I am sad to see my oncologist go but he is following his passion. Moving to Alaska to study with a cancer doctor who practices holistically. Intends to move back to area later. I may be moving to Alaska. *___*

    Hi, Bluebird,

I am in Alaska and wonder if you can tell me how to find that holistic group. I could benefit from it.

I am too protective of my body to do chemo or radiation and lasted only 8 days on Arimidex. I cannot live like that.... I lost my personality temporarily. I am in 85th percentile for having it gone from surgery alone. Doing lots of healthy stuff and hoping for the best.

hi I am looking for any information on cannabis oil and how to obtain for my dear friend who has triple negative breast cancer and just had all chemo and trials pulled due to a scan showing another tumor on her lung.

We have had no success in sorcing this oil but have heard how successful it had been for others.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated

Hi Ali and welcome to Breastcancer.org,

If you use the search function, you'll find many results here for threads discussing cannabis oil, which may help.

    We hope this helps!

Fearless in Alaska, here are a few links. This is Dr. Goksel. https://www.facebook.com/Dr-Musaberk-Goksel-MD-323...

This is his Alaskan office to be, today was his last day in Warsaw, Indiana. http://www.manta.com/c/mbs1nt7/goksel-musaberk-md But the phone on the link is a clue.

And this is the Google search for Anchorage holistic physicians. He will practice there as an oncologist while training with a holistic doctor. I have to ask the nurse navigator the name of the doctor, he once told me and I forget. But this info will help you some.

Once I am on the Xeloda for three months then I will go alternative and hope to be consulting with him or the doctor he is training through.
