sorry to bump this topic back up but if I'm, premenopausal, Dcis, ER+ can I have flaxseed? I've been having approx. a tablespoon a day (in oatmeal, yummy!).
The articles go back and forth, Here is one from MSKCC that is against it.

I'm so confused. Thoughts?

Hello Ladies;
O k here is what happened to me with flax seed oil, not just ground flex seed. I had been put on bio identical hormones for seizures, due to low estrogen. I developed stage 4 Breast cancer. Never diagnosed in time. While undergoing treatment they took me off the hormones and I could not function with the seizures getting worse. I began looking into flax seed oil. I began to take it- the Budwig diet. then suddenly my seizures went away.
I got thru treatment then I began to suspect that flax seed oil was estrogenic. My Dr. measured my estradiol( the hormone responsible for ER + ) and sure enough it was way high. i took it with tamoxifen but I could not tolerate tamoxifen. So now having been thru a brain tumor never diagnosed by the neurologist or oncologist, 5.5 years out sill on arimdex and wondering if I need to change to Evista plus ground flaxseed.My bone density is gone at a low point of -3.4 in the spine. So while arimdex and the diet - I am a vegan and do juicing take supplements ext, seem t o work there are still more side effects. by the way I am taking good siezure medicine now for life the new neurologist put me on. but it has side effects too. i wish had that t o begin with . I even told teh old neurologist I wouldn't take estrogen should have stayed with that choice but the siezuers ere bad. Five years and out seem and feels great! the bone loss is my new issue! Maybe just live with it. My oncologist wants to see me on arimedix 1/2 does for life. Whew what a lot to think about. thanks for all the good research and comments here! Flax seed oil can be estrogenic ladies! Have your dr. measure your estrdiaol while taking it .I know it binds with receptors sites too supposedly good.
I fee l blessed to be alive, yet want to keep my bone health.I wont take the Prolia I have autoimmune disease. Contraindicated and dangerous from what I have read!
Ive had all the bone drugs and out of options.

I think there is a lot of confusion about estrogen and foods that mimic estrogen.
I recently read that flax seed has 100 times more lignans than an other food, and that flax oil does not have them. There is something about the lignans that work against cancer.
I was advised by my cancer nutritionist to eat flax meal, up to 2 tablespoons per day to protect against breast cancer.
Check out this article that mentions flax raised estradiol levels, but they conclude flax is beneficial for preventing breast cancer.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16093400
Soy is another estrogenic food that is recommended as beneficial by some cancer experts. Whole soy foods only though. It was the isolated isoflavones (or some other partial soy product) that were tested in a Petri dish.
And high fiber diets are helpful to eliminate extra estrogen.
Also I have seen people posting about checking their estradiol levels while on Tamoxifen in order to see if it is working, but my doc explained that Tamoxifen doesn't affect how much estrogen you are creating or is circulating in your bloodstream.
I think it would be dangerous for any of us to make too many assumptions on our own, without a full understanding of how estrogen and estrogenic foods really work. Even many medical professionals are confused and/or not in agreement.
