Callback ..and concerned
Hi, Back in the spring of 2015, I had to have an MRI because of a finding in my left breast. In the end I had an MRI and the BI RADS rating of the MRI was a 3. They told me to go back for mammograms and sonograms every six months for two years and if there was no growth, it was considered benign.
Fall 2015, good. Spring 2016 good. In at least spring 2016 I paid for the 3D mammogram too! I was waiting to have someone tell me to go back in the fall of 2016. No one did. Not even my GYN who is normally a slightly neurotic and very thorough person. I went with the flow. Spring 2017 I paid for a 3D mammo plus sonogram. This was last Friday May 5th.
They are calling me back. I just found out this afternoon. I am calmer than I've been before, because now, at least up to the point of MRIs, this isn't my first rodeo. But I'm sensitive. Too sensitive. The voice of the clerk at my doctor's office was sad ( I HATE that!), and she said they want me back for additional imaging. She said something about new white asymmetric tissue. I always had asymmetric tissue in my past reports. The word "new" is bugging me.
I called to make an appointment and I asked the radiologist clerk if there was anything written there of concern. She happily said "Oh NO! They rated it a 0. They just want more pictures, someone probably didn't press hard enough, blah blah." So, she was reassuring. I should have asked if she saw any notes about new tissue but I was just too upset. And now the appointment is made and calling to ask won't change anything, plus if she does read it, it may eat my nerves up. I cannot afford that as apparently I have some bad GERD with a hiatal hernia. I had the HH for a bit now, discovered through an endoscopy, but the GI doc never explained that to me. He said "You have a liiiiitle widening in your esophagus. It's common and harmless." No, not harmless. It's causing problems, but that's another medical issue. Point being, stress doesn't help that matter.
So I've chilled out, re-read some old posts here that put things in perspective, and some nice private messages that also were reassuring awhile back. But when I got that call, for the first minute, I felt white. Sigh.
What to think of the new tissue? Surely benign things grow. Breasts have changes all the time I hear, yes?

Indeed, changes are common. Breasts do not stay the same throughout our life. Bi-rads 0 simply means inconclusive. They need more imaging to figure out what you have going on there. I would not read anything into the receptionist's sad voice. You don't know why she was sad. Maybe they've been slammed all day long and she just wants to go home. Maybe her grandmother died. Maybe she just has that flat deadpan delivery that some people have. Not reassuring, but also not revealing.

I agree with mustlovepoodles, please don't borrow trouble. You have no way of knowing what was going on in the life of the receptionist when she made that call; could be anything. Try to continue remaining as calm as possible until you have something real and specific to be concerned about. (I know, I know, it's hard).

Thank you ladies. What I love about everyone here is that they are so supportive and have wonderful perspective and a way of communicating that to others. You are all beautiful!!!!

Just as a follow up, you guys were right. My callback turned up nothing and I was given the all clear. I think I'm just not used to all these breast changes yet. The tech told me they change all the time, get fuller, thin out, sometimes things that were there even disappear. They just wanted to verify that nothing was missed under one spot.
Thankfully, nothing was.
I'm going to try not to come here and cry wolf. But I thank you all for your patience and understanding. The BC diagnosis is a nightmare and too many women here know all about that. -
Great news, Janeway. Nobody here would blame you at all for being concerrneed about breast issues. We have aaaaallllll been there.
