Possible to save an infected implant with IV antibiotics?

So sorry you're going through this, blueflowers! It's a tough diagnosis and it's hard to find too many success stories on this board.

I spent 13 days hospitalized last June fighting off my pseudomonas and cellulitis infection. I had two surgeries - one to clean the area and remove skin, the second to clean the area again after a recurrence, remove more infected skin, and replace the right side TE. The first time I was hospitalized for 5 days, the second time for 8 days, and was hooked up to IV antibiotics each time. Had to take 14-day doses of Cipro at home following the procedures.

I had to start over with my fills on the right side - I was back to flat. I also had my drains in for nearly 10 weeks. And my infected side was my non-cancer side....ugh. Pretty much everything sucked about the experience.

But....the infection has stayed away....so far. I was able to successfully finish my fills. I exchanged to implants at the end of October. I had a revision surgery last week. There has been no sign of a flare up, though the fear of losing my implants is always in the back of mind. I'm not sure you're ever really "in the clear" once you've been exposed to it.

Good luck to you littleblueflowers. I'm still experiencing leakage for almost 3 weeks. PS had me on 2 course of 2 strong abx because I started with red flaming breast area on radiated side. Now it's no more abx since I don't show signs of infection but if the leak doesn't come to a hault then it's coming out for me. I've had a day here and there of a clean gauze but then the yellow comes back. So draining, pun intended. Mon I go in for a check. We'll see if he gives it more time or if 3 weeks has been plenty for a tiny area to close on it's own..

And wow mytoystory2- Quite a story there, yikes. Glad you are doing better. So if your implant gets pulled and they say it's 6 mo before you can get it put back in, you start with TEs again with the slow fills?

I had cellulitis and was admitted to the hospital for iv antibiotics. It cured me temporarily. It came back months later and I was admitted again for iv antibiotics but my ps said thats it and removed the implant. I was devastated. I had 1 implant and 1 bare spot. I smoked cigarettes which he said was the culprit. I chose no more recons. 4 years later it does not phase me or anyone else. I hardly ever where a bra or a fake boob. Im comfortable with what i have ordont have. I just wish i never would have done the expander and implant thing. Lol. Healing prayers for all if you. I know what you are going thru

melmcbee- Happy that you are happy with your decision. For me I'm just not ready to throw in the towel so I chose to endure whatever comes my way in hopes that I'll be able to keep my implant. If it gets to it's just not going to happen for me which I don't intend on voluntarily stopping, then both come out. BC was traumatic enough so for me having a sense of normalcy in the look and feel is necessary for my mental well being. Just happy we all have options to choose from and all are just fine.
