breast tissue infected six months after radiation

Options

I had surgery, lumpectomy, chemo and radiation. Six months after radiation treatment was completed my breast became inflamed and hot. The red spread to the entire radiated area. Five different antibiotics produced no effect on the problem. Biopsy not cancer. The oncologist, radiologists, surgeon and infectious specialist have no idea how to treat it.

Any body experienced the problem or have ideas that would help.

I've had tough infections. After 2 rounds of oral abx I was hospitalised for IV abx which is much stronger than what you can take by mouth. Why haven't they hospitalised you to try IV abx?? Unless they say it's not infection and just discoloration of the breast? I have redness that comes and goes, but if it lasts for longer than a couple days straight and with heat to boot, I get it checked.

Also keep tabs on your temp. Over 101.5 and I was to go to ER when I was flaming red and hot breast to touch.

IV antibiotics were discussed but since not one of the five different types they tried had any effect they felt it wouldn't work. One Dr suggested l see a dermatologist???

are they completely sure it's infection? Skin in the radiation field can get wonky. When I read your post it reminded me of something called radiation recall.

Yeah if you can get into a derm...

Unless you are having other signs of infection...Fever etc then you need immediate care.

I would make an appt with your radiation onc. They would know if it's to do with the radiation. Derm is a good idea too. Hopefully it's not infection and you get answers.

did you ever find out what the problem was? My mom is now going through the same thing, she had a lumpectomy and chemo then radiation and months later her skin from the radiated site became red, warm, dimpled and hard to the touch. All her doctors aren't sure what it could be since the antibiotics made no difference, she feels fine, but they did mention possible inflammatory breast cancer. They said they would be super rare, I guess I'll wait for their next steps, but just curious if your ended up healing on it's own?
