Hematoma?

Options

I had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago. Bruises were healing, all was going well until yesterday when I noticed a slight red discoloration adjacent to the areola. Today the areola looked odd and my breast is bruising above and below it. I am hoping this is nothing to be concerned about. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

I got a pretty big hematoma from my lx. At first, there was a question of infection (like cellulitis) vs hematoma. A nurse marked it with sharpie to see if it spread, which it didn't. The tissue actually got a bit hard as the blood was reabsorbed, and the skin tone never really went back to normal (it stayed darker, like scar tissue). Most of it was taken when I had my mx, but a tiny bit of it remains to this day - 14 years later. I'd follow up with your team, though, as infection should be ruled out (or treated).

Does it hurt? I had a massive hematoma after biopsy, and I think that's truly the worst pain I've ever experienced. It was worse than the lumpectomy pain.

If it were me, I'd call the surgeon and ask to be evaluated. Or at the very least get their opinion over the phone.

Thank you TM. I've spoken with the nurse oncologist (surgeon in surgery) and will monitor the area and call back if no improvement. The heaviness has lessened a bit so I'm hopeful this heals soon. Thanks for your response. Hope you are well.

It hurt quite a bit. Fabric against the area, for whatever reason, was a big "ouch". It is less sensitive today; for that I'm grateful.
