Just diagnosed - MRI w/non-masslike regional enhancement?

Hello sisterhood (and brotherhood). New to the community ... had a breast indention 5 months after clean 3D mammogram, could not feel a lump, had ultrasound and mammogram resulting in BIRADS-4C, had biopsy and have been diagnosed with IDC in the right breast (ER+/PR+/Her2-/Nottingham score 3). Was doing OK all things considered and was having the enhanced MRI prior to surgery when the MRI showed something else. The original tumor is approximately 3 x 2.5 x 2 cm per the MRI (close to the size they estimated on the ultrasound). They found another area adjacent to the tumor with approximate dimensions of 3 (craniocaudal ... don't know what direction that is) x 3.5 (transverse ... don't know what direction that is) x 8 (AP) cm that is listed as "a large poorly defined region of non-masslike regional enhancement". Has anyone had that non-masslike enhancement on their MRIs and did it turn out to be benign or malignant? I have a MRI guided biopsy next week for the non-masslike area which has delayed the surgery. Concerned what I thought was going to be a lumpectomy/radiation/hormone treatment may turn into a mastectomy.

I had another area picked up on MRI that was close to my pectoral muscle. I went from a lumpectomy to a mastectomy. Pathology after mastectomy showed multiple areas of IDC from 0.5 cm -1.9 cm and DCIS in multiple areas as well. Also my nodes looked clear on US, MRI, and PET scan but two ended up positive after surgery. Breast cancer can be sneaky.

LoveK9s - While I can't speak for anyone but me, this is the way my DCIS and IDC area in the rear of my breast is described in my MRI report. It has been biopsied and confirmed. My surgeon says it's not a palpable mass, just an area with DCIS and IDC that has not yet firmed up. I also have a palpable mass that is all IDC by my nipple. The 2 don't appear to be linked physically but they said mastectomy to get both spots and the area in between that likely has some cancer cells in it. Both areas are Er/Pr + and Her2- so they assume they are related

Thanks MnEM and Brneyegrl for the feedback. From what limited info I've been able to find regarding the topic it appears it's a 50/50 B9/malignancy chance. Looking at my MRI it seems similar to images I've seen of DCIS which has me concerned.

yes, i had something show up on an mri in my left breast (after being diagnosed in my right breast). i had an MRI biopsy, which def wasn't my favorite procedure. that came back benign, but my surgeon decided she wanted to do an excisional biopsy to make sure (which is basically a lumpectomy), and that came back benign also. i am proceeding w/ unilateral mastectomy this month.

Well, had the MRI biopsy a couple of days ago (biopsied 2 areas of the non-masslike enhancement and each area had 6 small samples taken ... 12 total samples) and received the results today. DCIS with small amount of IDC so with the size of the area and the IDC that was already there, it's going to be a mastectomy for me.

Thanks MTwoman. Hugs are appreciated. I don't even know what to ask. I guess I'll be reviewing the various mastectomy related posts to figure out where I go from here.
