Good question. ER-/PR+ is rare (although, like mine, some tumors are more highly PR+ than ER+). Ask your oncologist what your “Allred Score” was for ER to determine if your tumor really was ER-. ER+/PR+ is a more favorable prognosis than ER+/PR- because recent studies indicate preliminarily that progesterone has a beneficial effect in preventing ER+ cells from effectively using the estrogen they’ve accessed (unlike Tamoxifen, which actually blocks the estrogen receptors’ access to estrogen). I’m not sure what aromatase’s relationship to progesterone is, and the body’s source of progesterone.

This sounds like a question for BarredOwl. She is the science “maven” here (as is sas-schatzi). You might want to reach out to either or both of them to see if they know of any research into aromatase’s relationship to progesterone and whether AIs have any effect.

Thank you for your reply I will ask my onc for the Allred score. The receptors were run 3 times each time ER-, PR + ( but not over 30%) when I ask the point of the AI the answer has been twofold , possiblilty of false negative and they just don't know enough about this rare combo so take it in case it helps. However the side affects are awful boneloss and joint pain ( I already have osteopenia) fatigue weight gain and cholesterol is going up. I have a strong history of heart disease.

How do I reach out to the people you suggested

Hi Calgrl, you can use the search engine on the menu (left side of screen) and search for posts with member screen name. You can then click on the member name and send a private message to them that way.

    Calgrl,

There is also a topic for ER-/PR+/HER2-. Maybe under rare breast cancer types? Maybe a PR+ only gal will see this posting and guide you. Not sure where to look to help you.
