I don't know who could appreciate this more than the beautiful women here. Today is my 53rd birthday. Mostly a happy day, but dragged down a little by the fact that life has been sucking in general lately. Thankfully not in any way related to the cancer.

It was almost two years ago that I was diagnosed, and the mantra that has gotten me through the good and the bad since then is, "I Choose Life." I couldn't believe what I randomly laid eyes on in a local boutique when I ventured out today for a little retail therapy for business- and family-related stress, and to treat myself for my birthday.

Lovely how life drops these little reminders just when we need them most. Yes, I bought it!

To me, “Choose Life” carries the subtext that one ought to choose to live to the fullest extent we can the lives that are given to us. Not everyone gets that luxury, and we are truly blessed that we did.

Well it wasn't meant to devalue anyone else's experience, just to appreciate my own. I do have to be reminded sometimes that happiness is often, but certainly not always, a choice. It got me through a really crappy diagnosis and I just wanted to share.

Thanks so much ladies! I showed my mom the picture and this is what she wrote to me. I hope it inspires others as it did me:

"It's a wonderful expression. A simple but profound commitment. A daily reminder of how much you really love being alive and what a beautiful gift each day truly is. And that being alive is of such high value that whatever you may need to do to choose life, even if it may be very hard is far beyond worth it, and that is what you will do."

That is what this is all about. There are other ways to die besides cancer, and we are all going out eventually one way or another. Most of us don't know when. Why not choose to live your best life, even if it is only for today.

SOLe Feo, Happy Birthday another year older. I just made a screwed up taste treat b/c the additive split a bunch instead of a little. Okay, added a couple of other things. Is it company good? Maybe. Is it what I need right now ? Yes. Oooooooohhhhh it caused a burp. Well, may or may not remember the taste treat, but will remember you Chickie.
