Just diagnosed

edited May 2017 in IDC (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma)

I was just diagnosed by a biopsy I had 4 days ago. They say I have Invasive ductal carcinoma and I am so nervous about what is to come. I have an appointment on the 10th with a surgical oncologist at Moffitt so only a few days away. So many things running through my mind right now. I am a married mother of 3. Anyone in a similar situation or have gone through this and come through to the other side okay?

    I'm sorry you are experiencing this! Please know that this part is the most difficult. Not knowing what comes next. Once you get more information you can wrap your mind around a plan. Concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other!!!

    hhuey, I'm sorry you find yourself here, but you will find help and comfort. Please don't Google--it just leads to a lot of misinformation. The first days of a diagnosis is really hard. It seems to get easier as you get more information and a plan of treatment in place. I'm glad you can see a surgeon quickly.

    You may want to start to write down your questions. If you are going to a breast center, see if they have nurse navigators who can help. Read some of the threads here dealing with IDC, although you may want to wait to see what your surgeon recommends. You didn't post whether or not you are ER or PR or HERC negative or positive and that will make a lot of difference in your treatment. Keep asking your questions here and someone will get back with you. We're here for you. All the best.

    hhuey - so sorry about your diagnosis. I tell all the Florida women to get to Mofftt as they are a National Cancer Institute designated cancer center (the only one in Florida) and have a great reputation.

    You will make it through...it is one tough road, but it is the worst when you know you have cancer but do not have a treatment plan.

    It will get better when the plan comes together!! There are thousands of his here. We are all here to help!

    hhuey - welcome but sorry you're here. If you decide to research, use this site or a trusted hospital like Mayo Clinic. That old 'dr' google really has a lot of outdated or just plain bad info. We'll look for future posts letting us know your treatment plan.
