hi everyone, hope you are all doing well and keeping your chin up (says me!) My question is: I had a mammoplasty last January with 4/21 Lymph nodes taken under left arm - my cancer was 2cm and it was Grade 1 - my surgical oncologist sent me for a radioactive scan for my bones after my operation and it came back clear - so, not in my bones. I then had a CT Scan to find out if it was gone from my cancer site and all tissues, all clear. My medical oncologist said chemo would improve my survival rate by 3% so decided after taking advice not to have it, I did have radiotherapy. I am due a mammogram in a few months, but my breast is extremely sore and tender, my daughters have suggested going for a different type is scan, because I am so agitated regarding this,I cannot imagine how painful it will become - your advice will would be really appreciated

You could ask the prescribing doctor if you can have an ultra sound instead, wait for another 6 months to have it, or make sure you tell the technician who does your mamogram.

    hidip,

You could ask your physician what additional type of imaging the NHS recommends/allows in such situations. There may be specific recommendations, if you go ahead and call the nurse, they may be able to schedule the new imagining instead at the original date of your scheduled mammo. It will be important to keep to your imaging schedule for the next few years, so waiting wouldn't be advisable.

Thanks Cive, it's just that after my mammoplasty I am really sore, lots of scar tissue and underarm pain....my GP is saying, ultra sound for the first time and see how you feel next time mammogram is due, my hospital have said that if I want to have ultrasound I will have to go private. My daughters are with me, one is a paramedic and the other nurses in a hospice - they said, everyone is different, people heal at different rates, you are older (thanks) and it might take you longer to recover from this. As long as I do something in the meantime they are happy. Thanks for your reply

Thanks MTwoman, I have sought lots of advice and the unit have said they are not unduly worried about me and will defer my mammogram for six months, I think everyone is different, some things have bothered me loads and others not so much. My GP said, now you have choices, and I chose ultrasound for now, I understand how important reviews are, but I want to have control for a time now, it's not a one pill suits all - I want to go with my 'gut' instinct and it's telling me that, at the moment, it's not right for me, but I do believe I will get there. Keep well and thank you!
