My initial pathology report after biopsy said I had Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, and then a few days later they changed it to Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Has this happened to anyone? I have heard of it happening after surgery but not in the lab/after biopsy...

hi jenn70, just responding because we have a new diagnosis and are at about the same stage. I have no answers for you but I suspect it's better that they get it right as things move forward. Ask your doctor 2 questions for everyone you ask here. Hope you got your clarification. Best

Hi Jen- I did not have this happen, but maybe this is why pathology takes so long. So that they can be sure what they are dealing with. I am sorry you have to be here. I have found comfort in these boards. I am about a month and a half from diagnosis. So if I can help in any way let me know.

I know my biopsies were each reviewed by 2 different pathologists. It's entirely possible that the first one caught the lobular but missed the idc but the second one caught it. It's not uncommon to have both and it also gave areas of DCIS too. Hope this helps

My original biopsy said IDC and my surgery pathology report said IDC with Lobular Features.
