Cancer treatment and side effects.

The astonishing thing to me is that it took this long for the medical establishment to wake up to this.

Seriously? They needed a study to realize that we are having side effects from treatments, whatever those treatments are? They were surprised how many of us say we had at least one bad one? Yeah, maybe we need to be a little more vocal or they need to listen a little bit closer.

I hate when my teen says "DUH", but my God, how lame brained can you get? They are just now FINALLY realizing that so very, very, very many of us suffer from terrible consequences of "treatment" This one really deserves a "DUH!!!"

I am having side effects from chemo so my Dr canceled my last dose (my 2nd of 6 treatments) and ordered a PET scan. My side effects are "most unusual" according to my Doc. This is my third time to go through chemo and my 4th cancer.I know about chemo-brain... I have a similar reaction but in an extreme way. I am 1. Walking in my sleep. 2. My memory gets very unreliable - I could"t remember what my insulin was or how to use my glucometer. 3. uncontrollable diarrhea 4. I have my own bathroom off my room but was walking halfway through our very large apartment to use a restroom much further away. 5. listening to old messages on our answer machine in the middle of the night.

None of those are especially dangerous though I would worry about driving and it is obviously important to stay on top of my diabetes.

Did anyone else out there have these types of side effects?

Memory & cognition problems (chemo-brain) and diarrhea are known SEs of chemo. Somnambulism (sleepwalking and illogical nocturnal behaviors such as using a distant bathroom and listening to old answering-machine messages) is not usually cited as a side effect—either of chemo or as a feature of chemo-brain. I’ve not heard of it associated with diabetes or meds for it either, but never say “never.” What meds are you taking for your diabetes? Are you taking a certain new-generation non-barbiturate class of sleep medication (Lunesta, Ambien, Rozerem, Sonata, Intermezzo, Belsomra)? Somnambulism is the best-known side effect of these—including such other paradoxical nocturnal behaviors as sleep-eating and even sleep-driving.

    840Laurie,

I promise you it will get better, I have my third chemo treatment on Monday.........my MO said, the first 4 will be really hard, because of the Adriamycin (red devil). The first one was real bad, the second not as bad, hoping the third one will be even better, but preparing for the worst. Did you drink water during the treatment, that does seem to help me. Did they give you nauseous medicines? Hugs (())
