Newly diagnosed, 19 with breast cancer

Hey all!!

I wanted to create this because I was just diagnosed with breast cancer (literally a day ago). I'm totally freaking out because I'm 19, and I had NO idea this would be the news I would receive.

About 5 months ago I noticed a small, hard bump in my right breast, just right of my nipple. I thought absolutely nothing of it, especially because my sister gets cysts in her breasts all the time. However, the pain persisted (only when touched), and the lump slowly but surely grew. I looked online for causes, and sure enough, everyone said not to worry. It was simply a cyst or a benign lump of some sort. I didn't worry until about a month ago when I read on this site that some younger women had similar experiences with painful breast lumps that turned out to be cancerous. However, I refused to see my doctor because the last thing I wanted to worry about was breast cancer (mostly because everyone told me it was a cyst and that I was simply too young to have it).

About 3 weeks ago, I finally went to see my doctor. I was going in for a physical, but I figured I might as well have her check my breast while I'm there. My doctor assured me it wasn't anything to worry about, but referred me to have an ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed a large lump, about an inch in diameter. I was sent the next day to see a surgeon.

When I received the biopsy results, I was terrified. I still am. I haven't slept yet, and I'm not sure how to tell my friends/family. However, I aim to remain positive throughout this I'm mostly posting this message for younger women who have more than likely done like me and searched hours on end to find an answer for their painful lump. Yes, most of the time the lump is totally harmful (which is awesome!!!). But as you see, it's not impossible. Don't hesitate on seeing your doctor, it just might be the best thing you do for yourself!!
