Success is in the little things you do, and in the things you say.Success is not in getting rich, or rising high to fame.Success is being big of heart, and clean and broad in mind; it's being faithful to your friends, and to the stranger, kind. - unattributed

Seed Sally, good to hear from you, but sorry that you are having the vertigo issues. I think even mild ones would drive me up the wall. Also, glad you thought of checking in here as well. I think one of the reasons we who stay here do is because of people like Bonnets. We all have had either direct or often close in-direct experiences to share . Don't know if we can 'help' but we can certainly relate useful ideas that one could check. I don't know just when ticks come out, but I'm sure it has been as warm in Mo. as it has been here in Il. ( my keyboard doesn't bring that out too clear, so Illinois ) and while I no longer have to feed cats in the area that was so heavily infested with ticks ( I could come out of there with 15 or more on me ) I would have started watching and have been from the moment the warm weather set in.

We have had a lot of rain and I do know the ticks aren't nearly as active then, but we still had plenty of sunshine too. I hope maybe between medication adjustment and Bonnets -- you will find the answer.

Speaking of rain, we are getting a bit right now. I think ( unless it stops and the sun comes out which I don't think highly likely ) we won't be getting our roof on today. A few more days won't hurt anything. It is cool enough right now ( not cold thank goodness ) for any of a person's lighter sweat shirts. I think a lot of that is due to the rain and dampness -- making it seem much cooler than it is.

Hope you all have a good day though -- its Spring -- it is always an inspiration to me. Even some less than great weather isn't always bad and won't last long till we are back to sun and growth.

Sally, could it also be Meniere's Syndrome, especially if you're having some hearing anomalies? Or, as Bonnets mentions, it could be tick-borne: have you been out in the woods, clearing brush or gardening in deep grass?

I got bitten twice and never knew it. Hadn't been doing any of the above! Got the target the first time 2 years ago, and was put on antibiotics the last time last year. Dh had no idea where he got bitten or that he was bitten. Don't even have a dog any more to carry them or walk, got one on mem when I walked on the lawn! They are sneaky little buggers!

Bonnets thanks for your advice. I felt better yesterday. Not so much vertigo. But I never thought about a tickborn disease. I had an episode at the end of November 2016. It lasted a week and went away. We have a vacation home in the Ozarks and there are plenty of ticks there. But I don't remember being bitten at any time. We went over there several times prior to my implant exchange in early November so I guess it could have happened. I did have an unexplained fever for a few days about 2 months ago and an episode of vomiting a few weeks ago without the vertigo. I just assumed I was having problems recuperating from my surgeries and heart condition. If I keep having problems I will suggest it to my PCP. My mother got a classic case of Lymes disease about 1987. She was very ill and was lucky that it was a hot topic for doctors in our area at the time. She had to get treatment more than once throughout her life for it. Anyway thanks and I'll keep this in mind

I too have found ticks ( though I do think they were the regular dog-type ticks ), on me while walking in my yard. We also have deer that roam the area and other wild-life that could encourage un-wanted pesky or disease carrying little varmints. The deer ticks I am told are much smaller than the dog tick. Even at that I have found dog ticks on me that were pretty small.

I don't recall ticks being an issue in southern California. Guess they made up for it with other 'bugs' or scorpions, or whatever your better off for having kept distance between you. We have weeds in our yard at present. Dh didn't have the lawn tractor ready, nor did he have the garage door ( new one now ) able to go up and down to get it out even if it were ready. He is going to use my small gas push mower -- I'll even help with that maybe, to combat the tall stuff. Because we are under so many trees most of our grass is slow-growing. It is just the few patches ( thankfully small ) that for some reason seem to suck up enough nutrients to show almost atomic growth.

Today 80% chance of rain, but dry tomorrow with warmer temps returning. About time. Our furnace has had to run after several quiet days. So, our roof is likely ( just our front screen room ) going to go on now on Monday ( dry day too ) so we are sort of off to the races.

Yes the deer ticks are very tiny, like the head of a pin. That's why people don't even realize they have been bit. We have a lot of deer here too, and mice also carry the deer ticks. The ticks are out and worse they say cuz of the winter weather this year.

We got a new roof last year and new garage door. This year just had a new furnace put in yesterday. If it's not one thing it's another. I,e had the cold from hell, still coughing, though better, except when I go to bed, spent half the night in my recliner. Did find that my arthritis is a lot better , tried taking CQ10, someone mentioned here, and for me , I feel 10 years younger. The best my arthritis has been in ages, can't believe the difference , after only 3 days on the stuff. Arthur may have been from the Arimidex, whatever it's a lot better. Figured it was worth a try and sure helped me!

Dh got several ticks on him last summer in MN. I carefully pulled them out with tweezers, bagged and froze them just in case they needed to be analyzed. This was suggested to me. Dh didn't seem to have any ill effects.

I skipped the gym this morning and cleaned our bathroom and bedroom. Worked up a sweat but probably didn't get my heart beat up like doing cardio!

    Hi everyone,

Didn't realize it has been so long since I've checked in with everyone. I, too, ache all the time and will try the CoQ 10 if I can remember to buy some. I used it years ago, but ran out, and never thought to replace it.

My garage make over is pretty much done. My brother has been such a major help. His field of expertise is organizination and efficiency. Without him, we probably would have taken everything out of the garage, had the new cabinets installed, and put everything back. With his help, I have gotten rid of stuff we don't need ( and even more, do not know how to use). I think it was harder for my daughter than me, because the garage has always been her Dad's and she is still hanging on to some old, rusty tools and a tool chest to give to her son when he has his own place. He's only 14, so we're looking at at least another 10 years before he is ready for it. I could understand if they were really good tools in good shape, but they are at best some craftsman stuff or Home Depot. My DH used to be very meticulous with his tools, but as he got sicker, he rarely used anything out there. We had one cabinet full of car stuff. Again, we have no clue about how to use them, but more importantly have no desire to work on cars. Plus DD works for a construction project equipment company, and whenever either of our cars sound funny, she takes it to work and it is fixed usually by the time she gets home, unless they need to order a part.

The funniest or most frustrating part of this whole makeover is that my daughter and my brother have been fussing at each other since last Tues about what cabinet the paper towels and toilet paper should be in. Seriously!! My brother and I put them in one cabinet that makes sense to me, she came home from work and moved them to a different cabinet, and the next day, we moved them back again.

Traveling starts again for me this week. I head to Ga on Thurs for my oldest grandchild's 18th birthday. I will be back next Sun, because the kitchen remodel starts on May 8th and we need to empty everything before then. But I will be heading back to Ga on May 25th for DGS's graduation. I am taking the daughter who just moved away and her 3 kids with me, and we'll be there for 10 days. After that, I have no clue what is next.

Okay Anne, I'm moving in and I'll be there next week. Wow !!!! That is fantastic. Dh has a four car garage and our cars sit outside because there is no room. Since I have been doing or I should say --- trying to do the house I'm pretty sure we are stuck with the garage as is for another yr. I hope though he does serious inventory and then decides how to put things away --- a lot more unseen into cabinets. Your garage is just phenomenal.

I don't think anyone has ever discovered why we let things get into such shape before we do something. The only people I know that seem n to have avoided that issue was because they were so disciplined from the first moment on. Well, that is something I've promised myself a thousand times -- that I will get something organized and never again let it get back. Oh those wonderful promises.

Oh good JOB Anne! Doesn't it make you feel good to see the before & after like that? Sometimes I work on a job for a week or so, before I can get it finished.

And I don't ask DH to help out, because he would not throw anything out, or get rid of any of his "stuff".... Never any clothes.... not ever. He has "his" garage, and I have the other one.... We store everything in there.... Seasonal clothes, suit-cases, a cupboard of books, Pots & pans, dishes, that I don't have room for in the house. And every time I go out there, I try & do something else, to organize it. We don't park a car in there.... And we couldn't anyway, Hah!

Jackie, you have a 4 car garage? And you con't have your cars in there? I would hound him until he gave in! I mean tell him "Today we are starting to clean out the garage" And then tell him.... "Set all the stuff out you will never use again, and we call someone to come pick it up".....

Man, everytime I watch Hoarders, or Pickers, I get night-mares! Tell that DH that you feel like you are living like that! Men just think different.... they don't like to be told to do anything.... But maybe if you ask him.... or TELL him.... Hah! Or else get that iron-skillet out.... I know.... tell him "your friends" are coming over to help you organize! Hah!

Life is not a competition with others. In its truest sense it is rivalry with ourselves. We should each day seek to break the record of our yesterday. We should seek each day to live stronger, better, truer lives; each day to master some weakness of yesterday; each day to repair past follies; each day to surpass ourselves. This is, simply, progress.

What a pretty bouquet and what a fantastic son. That bouquet has a very nice setting. I used to work at Burpee Seeds -- as a seed analyst many yrs. ago. For some reason while I worked there I seemed to have acquired a green thumb. Now I hate to say --- my thumb is back to its normal color. Just thinking out loud though -- that it seems to me that orchids would need to stay a bit more moist than most plants -- being tropical. My former boss has orchids all the time. She keeps them on her window sills ( light ?? ) and I think moist. They seem to ALWAYS have flowers too.

I should admit though --- I spent 3 full yrs. going to her house and all her plants not only did well, but thrived -- needing a lot of trimming. I know some people seem to be able to be 'in' tune with their house plants. Hopefully those who have the right color thumbs will jump in here.

Lovely today --- lots of sun and warmer temps -- up to 70. That is okay with me. Warmer yet tomorrow and sun. By ? Wed. I think the possibly of more rain and all the rest of the week. Difference is that I think the temps stay up. Guess we can't have it all. Making enormous progress in my little office, but a bit of refining now that I'm nearly done. I have a lot of things that need to become shredded material -- so still a couple of piles to get through but I've come a long way in getting the surfaces empty --- like they should have been all along.

Hope all of you have a beautiful Sunday too.

Jackie- you're more than welcome to move in, but I suggest you wait a few weeks. Work on the kitchen starts May 8th. I am so incredibly glad I did it, but I can't tell you what made me even think of doing it. I have never seen the garage as another "room "in the house, and since we don't have attics or basements here in So Fla, it is our only "storage area". Next area to hit is my bedroom closet to see how much in there can move into one of the garage cabinets. I am seriously thinking of getting one more deep cabinet that would hold our folding chairs & barstools. We have a pretty large peninsula in our kitchen and until recently had five large comfortable bar stools surrounding it and all but special meals were eaten there. Since there are only the three of us here full time, I bought three more contemporary bar stools about a year ago. My DD refused to get rid of the old ones, saying we still eat there occasionally when my DGS's other Grandma comes to dinner(maybe once a month). So the old ones are on the back porch covered with a large sheet.

My DD brought in the mail one day really excited- Bed, Bath and Beyond had an ad for folding bar stools! I ordered 3 right away. They don't match the ones we already have, but are similar. The old barstool are still sitting on the patio because her boyfriend is trying to buy a house, and he may be able to use them. Problem is, he has been house searching for about 6 weeks with no luck. He is not picky at all, it's just that everything in his price range sells so quickly.

Our weather is awful today. Steady hard rain, which is very unusual for us. We get short, strong rain, or all day drizzle ( which is fairly new for us), but other than hurricanes, our storms tend to move thru very quickly. And my brother's son, DIL &DGD are coming off a cruise today and spending the night with us- no sightseeing or beach today.

Jackie- that's another problem with you moving in- I am not sure when my brother is leaving, and my son arrives Jun 3rd, so if they overlap, the best I can offer is a couch. Really unhappy to see my brother go. We live together really well and I will miss him incredibly. Hope he comes back asap.

Jackie, if you have a four car garage, I would insist on having one cleared out for your car. The day we moved into this house, I claimed the garage for my car. It's a two car garage, so there was plenty of room to accumulate junk, but I parked in the garage all the time. It was unusual for me to take such a strong stand, but by golly, I took care of everyone else 24/7. That gave me the right to get into a cool car in the awful summer heat, and also to be able to leave and return home without having to get wet. Couldn't do anything about that away from the house, but it sure came in handy.

Ducky- love your flowers- I have the opposite of a green thumb- I kill any plant I touch. My late FIL loved plants and did well with them. But he travelled a lot. Each time he did, he would give me explicit (sometimes written) instructions to take care of them while he was gone. Didn't matter if he was gone for a week or six months- every plant would be dead. He would just chuckle and start over.

Happy Birthday, ducky! Gorgeous flowers, thoughtful son.

We're headed down to Oak Lawn to host brunch for our friends out that way who couldn't come up to the city last week for Easter at the Hancock. I hate driving down there, with the I-55 onramp construction (there really are no alternate routes except a long drive across a ghetto surface street) but it is what it is. And Bob didn't join us last week because he had to work.

Last night had a Muscadet de Sevre et Maine and a King Estate Pinot Gris (neither of which I finished) with a very forgettable cold seafood platter at Oyster Bah (sic). They were overcrowded and the service was glacial. Will go back only on a weeknight—last time was on a Wed., and the seafood Louis was very good with attentive service. May try actual fish the next time before I judge.

Hey gals! Ducky, I love your Orchid....! I used to grow a lot of them..... I got that love for flowers from my Dad, who was a life-long florist, and my Mom grew her own Orchids & Bonsai's.... But in California, I think you can grow ANYthing!

My blue Orchid lasted a long time, but I heard if you CAN get them to bloom again, the blooms will be white... which is okay! My radiologists's office had the prettiest orchids! They were facing a South window, through filtered shades....

Planted in a small-bark mixture, if you need to re-pot.... They sell a special orchid potting mix and feed.... My Daughter in Orlando took us through a place where Orchids were hanging onto branches, and trees, with no potting material.... They were misted, and grew beautifully. That's why they need an "airy" bark mixture...

Remarkable transformation of your garage, Anne.

    Beautiful bouquet, Ducky. Happy Birthday!

Today is cool and windy. Just a temporary respite from heat and humidity.

So we had this "Earl" help us out with painting.... Now I.... meaning ME, painted the West side of this little wooden garage, and then I painted 1/2 of the South side, but was afraid to get that high up on the ladder. So 1/2 needed finished.... Well, "Earl" our nice little neighbor is STILL working on that HALF of the damn garage!!!! I mean he took his time scraping, and scraping, 1/2 of the one side of THE DAMN GARAGE!

So then he started painting!!! Now if I thought his SCRAPING was slow, MY GOD, his painting has taken the whole rest of this day!!!! On ONE SIDE of ONE WALL!!!!!

We will NOT have him finish any more painting.... no way Jos'e!!! Holy Mackeral! I mean DH and I just can't help but smile at each other!!! It is now almost 4.... He came at 9... Took a little break, and this JOB is just going to drive me nuts!!!

I will finish the rest of this house, the garages, AND the damn shed! I can reach the rest.... even with a small ladder....!!!

Okay.... I'm done! I'm glad we aren't paying him by the HOUR!!! What a joke!!! Okay, I'm done.....

Oh Chevy -- that is just too funny. Well, likely the poor soul doesn't want you to think he would do a rotten ( really quick ) and un-professional job. I do know what you mean though. I'm glad when people are fussy but most seem as they though they tend to err well on the side of TRYING too hard. It isn't about the money I think as much as being "professional". So, while it can be nerve-wracking -- he just wants to make sure YOU can't ever say that he didn't do the best that could be done.

These guys we use work pretty fast. They have a set price -- but Steve has been at this so long he knows how long it will take. I like Steve though we did suffer 'with' him through a drinking period. He got things together finally and we once again have no problem recommending him to people we know.

After they are done --- I will have to go out and do a massive amt. of clean up out there. I didn't do my spring cleaning out there -- knowing the roof was going to go on soon. I usually wash and clean the floor area thoroughly -- do all the boxes and other equipment, then wash all the walls and the windows and make sure there are no cobwebs left anywhere.

It is a beautiful sunny day here and it will be warm. Who could ask for more. I'm delighted with the day so far. Be far happier when I get the cat room completely done. Sure won't mind the next rain -- on an un-leaky roof.

Hope you all have a wonderful day -- warm and sunny.

Okay, so he didn't paint a small piece in back of the fence.... on the garage.... NOW, Husband is out there with 1/2 gal. of paint! Painting a piece about 2 food wide, about 5 feet tall. He has been doing that for 1/2 hour! But at least he hasn't come in saying he dumped over that paint.... like he did the last time he was helping me paint the house.

I mean what can you do? What can you say? He just says the other garage, nor the back of the main garage doesn't need painting! IS HE KIDDING ME???? We have all this paint, so it is getting painted.... It looks awful, and in dire need of a paint job.

I will do it when he is gone! It's just that I really like to PAINT!!! Everyone hollers when I paint.... when I get on the ladder just 2 steps up!!! From now on, I will do it, and not tell anybody.... They all want to take my fun away.....

I cleaned up the rest of the flying paint chips "Earl" scraped off.... And then moved the potted plants & statue back to it's place.... I can just thank heavens that side is done....

.................................... almost.... I'm afraid to go look at what DH has done......................

DH had 2 uncles. One would plan everything out and do it very carefully. The other said he could do it wrong and do it over in the same amount of time. The quick one was a wily thinker. His garage was falling apart so he offered it to the fire department as a training burn. After they burned it down he raked out the nails and sold them for scrap metal. My DH is so like him it was scary. His living room chair looked just like DH's with books and newspapers all around it. His aunt had given up - as have I.

I'm telling DH I want to paint our woodwork "because I love to paint". I think I do a better job, actually. Lots less splatter where it shouldn't be.

Oh Wren! Yes, we ARE a lot more careful! And I don't make a mess when I am painting. I just finished one whole side of the shed.... It looks so much nicer.... A dark chocolate color...I'll trim it in the cream-color I have.... Then I'll finish the back of the frame garage, & door.....

Then work on the galvanized metal garage.... It will be easy to paint... and smooth!

That time DH dropped the gallon of paint, it took me about an HOUR to clean it up! I mean it was all over the flag-stone, and block-top in between the stones.... Also splattered up on the frame of the house...I wiped up as much as I could, then used the hose and the broom to get it up before it "set".....

But I couldn't get mad.... I mean not more than 10 minutes... He was trying to help.... You know, at OUR age, we are still so lucky to have each other.... We will both be 80 this year.... DAMN that sounds so old.....! But I don't FEEL like that age!

Where is Ducky.... She is the only one in the world that is a little older than me.... Hah! And SHE is still doing good also! Okay.... I came in and took 2 Aleve, and I'm drinking a hot cup of the Ginger, Lemon, Hybiscus honey tea I make!
