Bad news from my PA today!

I saw my PA today for 6 month check-up - got bad news from her. This was the last time I will see her as she's retiring. She's been my Primary Care Provider for over 20 yrs and gotten me through so much over those years.

But there is a bright side - all my blood work was great - all well within 'normal' ranges. So it's 6 months til I see a someone new.

BUT - still NED!

    Oh, Kicks, when I saw your post's title I gasped and sprouted fifty (more) gray hairs. Bad news, yes, since your PA has been your handler for twenty years. But not bad news, BAD NEWS.

    Oh wow - I also did a double take when I saw the title & thought something horrible. Of course, loosing a trusted & loved doc is horrible, but at least your blood work was great.

    I had to find a new MO when mine retired just as I finished active treatment. The new one is just OK. And I had to find a new GYN when she retired six months later. This GYN had been my equivalent of a PCP for 20 years. So I tried to pick all younger docs who would still be around when I reached 80. Then two of them were sooooo good that they got other offers. Pulmonologist went to be the head of a University med school dept out of state.

    Good luck with your search for a new doc that understands our quirks.

    I've lost several of my trusted Drs. relatively recently. My Phsy. Dr retired. My Retina Specialist retired (and is passed away). The first of my IBC Drs 'kicked me to the curb' not long after surgery as long as I saw my PA every 6,months. The next to no longer wantt to see me was my Rads Dr as long as I saw my PA every 6 months. The last (my Chemo Dr) moved away and I was told my PA would 'take good care of me'. She is/has been all that (and more).

    Next Tuesday I'll be seeing my Derm. PA. She's a bit younger so hope I'll be,able,to keep her.

    BUT - I'm IBC and 7+ yrs since DX and still NED! YEAH!. I'll get new Drs though they can never repalace those who have gotten me to being here today.

    Great news Kicks, you're a fine role model for us. Bad news turns out to me mostly very good news!

    Great news kicks, that give us all hope. I really like my primary doc which I've had since 2008. She works with her husband a gynecology and brother-in-law. He's a surgeon and the one to diagnose my breast cancer. Very handy. Glad you have good memories.

    Totally misread the title. Glad you are still NED. Sorry your PA is moving on. I'd feel the same about my pcp. Hopefully you'll like your new one just as much.

    Well, yesterday I had my 6 mth appointment with the PA who 'replaced' Jan (my 20+ yr PA). In my mind, no one can actually ''replace' or takeJan's place ever - BUT I really liked Beth (new PA) and felt comfortable with her.

    She took plenty of time with me, asking a lot of questions (not going just off my records) to familiarize herself with me, personally, and have a better understanding of 'me'and how I 'think'.

    There were a couple of blood tests that she had not ordered when I went for my blood draw 2 days before appt that Jan had always ordered for me. After we talked about them not having been ordered, she understood the reasons why Jan had been ordering them and sent me to the lab for them to be done - just to be 'sure'.

    I like Beth, feel comfortable with talking with her and definately feel she is quite competent.

    Still NED! So, it was a great day!

    Traveltext - yeah - today being the day of surgery back in 2009 does feel fantastic! Especially when I hit 1 yr post DX, all my Drs said they hadn't expected me to make it a yr - fooled them. It is sad though to think of all of our Kindred Spirits who haven't been as blessed as I have been.

    Minus Two - I 'debated' with myself (not usually a good idea to do ) rather to start a new Thread or pull up the one from 6 mths ago about losing Jan - obviously the old Thread won out. I thought using the old Thread would make it easy for anyone to read what had already been written.

    To All - I thank you for all the thoughts/prayers/kind words and that you are each and everyone will be as blessed as I have been.
