Radiation and reconstruction

Options

I wish any of my doctors would have explained how radiation affects reconstruction. Although I first had DCIS, with three other sister's with breast cancer, I knew that a mastectomy could be in my future. I did the genetic testing, but we do not have the known cancer genes. Went ahead with simple lumpectomy and radiation. At the next mammogram, a more invasive cancer showed up in the other breast and lymph nodes. Decided to have the double mastectomy with expander placed in each breast. The radiated breast has been problematic. First a leaking expander, then after replacing it an infection. It was removed and now will probably have a lat flap reconstruction, but will not get the results/size that I had hoped for (just a C cup would be nice, I was too large previously).
