Waiting and anxious

I thought I posted yesterday but can't find my post. Apologize if I did. I have been reading the stories on here the past few days. It's been helpful and also makes me cry. I am 46 years old and this past Sunday (April 9) I found a lump and indentation on my right breast. I was able to get an appt with my ob/gyn on Tuesday morning. She examined me and was reassuring. Said it was 2 cm and very mobile. I had tried moving it and didn't think it was so that did make me feel better. She also said she believes the indentation is from loss of breast tissue in that area. In the past year, I have lost close to 15 pounds and went from a C/D cup to a straight C cup after the weight loss. In the past year and half I have been experiencing menopause symptoms (irregular periods and hot flashes). I just finished my last period this past Saturday the day before finding the lump and have been having hot flashes again the last 2 weeks. I have some tenderness on the side of my breast by the area of the lump that goes into my armpit area that started on Monday. My breasts tend to swell and become sore and tender each month during my cycle. My sister in law is also a ob/gyn and is helping to keep me calm and reassured during this time. I have an appt this coming Tuesday 18th at the breast clinic. My Dr reassured me on Tues that she believes this will be ok. I am still so scared, we have 3 boys, 1 at home and 2 in college and my other sil is currently fighting a stage IV cancer diagnosis. The waiting is hard and I am afraid it's not over yet.

That is right on about the waiting being hard. Most of us have been there and understand! I usually find that some deep breathing is calming. In addition, I try to cope by having fun activities planned, for distraction.

Congrats on the successful weight loss: it is important to achieve 'optimal' body mass index prior to menopause. Your screen name says you might enjoy running - is that how you dropped the pounds? Or perhaps you're busy with work/errands (which makes it even more challenging to have time for fitness)

You are very wise to know yourself so well and lucky to have a family member who is a health professional. I assume there will be a mammogram and perhaps ultrasound done. Maybe you have a benign cyst that can be drained. Keep us up to date, unloading here whenever the need arises...

thanks for the reply. I have ran since high school, love to run, workout, do yoga, etc. It is my stress reliever. I gained a few extra pounds the last couple years our middle son was in high school...too much bleacher sitting and concession stand food while watching him play sports. After he graduated I found I had extra time to run more again and started eating better. Yes I will be receiving a diagnostic mammograms and ultrasound on Tuesday. Not sure whAt else. I am lucky to have my sister in law. She has been a Godsend this week. It's good to have people that know what you are going thru...that's why sites like this are nice. I have shared with a couple good friends and my sister in law, leaning on my faith and my husband is very supportive but you still feel very alone and scared.

Runnermom, if it helps, the vast majority of biopsies are benign. Do you have your BIRADS score?

I have not had a mammo or ultrasound done yet...it is scheduled for this coming Tuesday. She did look back at the notes from my last mammo (1 1/2yrs ago). There was nothing noted for the particular area of the lump but they did note dense breasts

ah, sorry! well then you might not even get to the biopsy stage. they may be able to look at the imaging and clearly detect what is going on. I'm sorry you are having concerns about your breast health, and glad you have good support.

Im very nervous and have a lot of anxiety, I did my mammogram and ultrasound yesterday and they want to biopsy an area that has changed, they didn't see in ultrasound but it was on mammogram. which is the best test to detect breast cancers? MRI, Mammo, or ultrasound. Feeling stressed and nervous.

I hope you find out good news soon.

I noticed My left nipple was inverted a few months ago. At first I didn't think anything of it. I Didn't know that a newly inverted nipple was a sign. Also having soreness and my nipple is itchy.

My obgyn was concerned. Sent me for mamogram and sonogram. Everything came back normal but he suggested I get second opinion.

I sent my reports to a hospital and they said no need for biopsy or breathing exam. My Dr was confused and said they were foolish.

He's sending me to another Dr..

Has this happened to anyone else?

Well I somehow made it thru the week and weekend. I will be so glad when tomorrow is over. I have been having a lot of aching and tenderness feeling in both breasts and tenderness in my right armpit. My right breast is the one that has the lump. Also still continue to have hot flashes this past week, several day. Not sure what any of this means, just saying lots of prayers and hopeful this has something to do with perimenopause symptoms. Hoping to know more tomorrow. I know it is hard to wait and everything I feel I wonder what it means too. Tomorrow is like a blessing and a curse, if I get bad news I'll wish it were today. I hope all goes well for both of us. Lisa

I've found a lump at top of right breast going into my armpit, also got pain then numbness in my shoulder and down my arm to my elbow. I went to the doctors on the 7th April and his referred me to a breast clinic which I've now got my appointment through for this Thursday, got a family history of breast cancer.....I'm a little scared to say the least

jennylou I have family history too...maternal grandmother had it in one breast, 2x, pre and post menopause. She beat it both times and lived till a ripe old age of 93. My mom and both her sisters have been lucky...a few lumps between them but all benign. I haven't been able to share with my mom yet though...she is worrier and I don't want to make her go thru the waiting and worrying right now. Best of luck to you too!

Hope you other gals are doing ok. I had my appt on Tuesday. I feel much more reassured. Both Dr and radiologist believe benign but it's suspicious enough they want to do biopsy to rule out cancer. It is a bi-rad 4a. I have biopsy tomorrow. I finally told my parents...my mom is a worrier and i couldn't deal with telling her last week so I waited. She is extremely worried and i don't think telling her at all was a good choice for me. I am feeling positive and good and I want to stay that way. The Dr and radiologist I saw were both awesome and very reassuring. I know there are still risks but I am choosing to think positively right now. Wishing everyone the very best.

There is every reason to feel positive and good. Only about 10% of Birads 4a biopsies turn out to be anything worrisome.

hello... did you receive a diagnosis? A suspicious lump was found on my left breast. The area hurts and it stretches out to my underarm snd to my shoulder blade and my breast are in pain most of the day. Should I be worried?
