Hello All,

I had a power port placed on Wednesday. I am tender, which I know is normal and each day it has fotten better, but I noticed today I seem to have some irritation in the throat and upper chest area, the kind you get when running in the wind and its still very tender when I bend over. Anyone else have such experience? I think this is part of the healing, but thought I would check with others.

If you are concerned about irritation, call your Dr and ask him/her. I was told by all my Drs to call if there were any concerns. My ports been in for 7+ yrs with no issues at all with it - gets flushed every 8 weeks.

No throat irritation for me but it was tender and felt very odd when bending over. That lasted about a week to 10 days and was mild, never painful.

After I got my port, I bought a 'seat belt pillow' from Ebay. They are only about $3-6 (includes shipping). They are advertised as pillows for children, but they work great for ports and after MX surgery. The stuffing is easily changeable so if it's too puffy you can put in something less puffy.

I was looking for one too and found a great article in the charlotte observer. Here is the web site www.portpillows.com. They are free and they do accept donations. Amanda Rosen is the contact person.

That you all your replies! My port has become my best friend and after 2 weeks post-op the discomfort turned to very mild tenderness, but today I forget it's even there
