my breast

O. k. This is the first time I've ever blogged so pardon me please. Does anyone out there (besides me) think it is more than a little strange my oncologist has never actually examined my breast? I've been with him for more than four months now since before my radiation treatment. After surgery and radiation, now he's recommending hormonal therapies and I'm just wondering do oncologists usually prescribe serious medications and NEVER actually examine the breast/or breasts in question? I just wonder if he's even curious!
This may sound ridiculous, but I'm serious.

maya, your post concerns me. If I were you I would ask your onc to examine you! All of my docs (onc, surgeon, gyn and gp) examine my remaining breast.

You may want to consider switching docs.

Get a second opinion. My onc examines every time & so did my rad onc. Or you could always just ask him why he hasn't examined you. That's what I would do. But then I'm pretty direct.

    Good Luck

I have been examined by every doctor I've had every time I go. From my surgeon to the oncologist and rads doc.
Does sound a little odd. I would just ask him why he hasn't and see what the explanation is.
    Good luck to you!

Thank you ladies. I plan on asking him this week when I see him.

My experience has been like yours, mayasgirl. My oncologist has deferred examinations to my surgeon and female radiation oncologist. He's been wonderful -- responsive to problems, returns phone calls within an hour, encouraging when I was ready to throw in the towel with chemo. It never even occurred to me that he'd perform breast exams.

Ask him to do it and ask that a nurse is in the room while he does the exam. If he won't do that, get another doctor. It all sounds strange. Would you trust a doctor to treat you for skin cancer if he wouldn't look at the leison? Not me.

Why is this under the "Humor" thread? I don't think it started out here.
