Bipolar and BC.

Options

i was diagnosed with bipolar disorder 20 years ago. i am happy to say that, due to the right mix of meds and getting older, i am stable. my BC diagnosis hasn't caused me to have an "episode" but my anxiety has def increased; i am taking a med to help me with that. is anyone else dealing with a mental illness and BC? how are you coping

Hi Steph - congrats on two decades of survival with that very challenging diagnosis (getting the right med combo is key!) and best wishes for many more to come.

This is not my particular affliction however I did a search here with bipolar as a key word and saw half a dozen recent posts from gals who mention it. If you send private messages to a few of them, invite them to connect with you on this forum. They may be busy with other issues and not take time to look at these topics real often. I'm sure you're not alone so don't be reluctant to reach out, as you already have.

<Hand held high> Yes, I have bipolar disorder and anxiety. My bipolar has been stable for about 6 years but my anxiety went off the rails during treatment. I ended up being diagnosed with PTSD after a BMX gone horribly wrong and I took additional medication for about six months. Happily I was able to stop that and now I'm just back to my regular cocktail of drugs.

I am bipolar and diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer. My doctor told me due to the cortison given during chemo I did risk mania.

I have been able to handle my bipolar 1 diagnosis for about 10 years without medication but honestly used cannabis during treatment to control my moods. It worked but is illegal where I live. I guess I am not suggesting that to someone else but just saying.

My cancer did not shrink while on my regular bipolar medication so I decided to just go off it and turn to the cannabis. Not sure what science says about mixing chemo with bipolar medication, if anything. I am now on femara, hormon treatment and that gives you depression so now on the other side of the spectrum I am not sure how to deal with it.
