March 2017 Surgery

I saw BS AND PS today. BS will probably remove more tissue when I swap out my TE, which will hopefully be this summer. I can't believe I am not supposed to lift more than 5 pounds for 3 more weeks! Oh well, that will pass, and then I can work on getting stronger.
I am keeping all of you in my thoughts!
-
Pugs I am so sorry. Stay strong and positive. I'm in your pocket! Prayers for a speedy recovery. Your in my thoughts.
Hugs
-
Lovepugs, I'm sorry to hear your news. Praying for you.

pugs I am so sorry about your news. I will keep you in my prayers.

Just an update. Today had a revision of my lumpectomy. Needed because the margins weren't clear of DCIS, although they were clear of stage 1 IDC. (Mixed type) And, as an added complication, my biopsy clip was still there. So I had to undergo wire placement again before surgery. (And still not found!) Hope these margins are clear, or I will need a Mx.
On the plus side, I have a great team, very positive and upbeat. Best to all of you.
-
marih, I hope your margins are clear. I had the same difficulty. Did your mammogram reveal the DCIS? mine was not seen on mammography. So that made it more complicated ( that and other unrelated things)
Speedy healing to.you!

Pugs:
So sorry to hear your news. What a long journey this is. My thoughts with you! Hug those kitties!!!
(I'm a cat person, too. I actually foster -- or did before C -- but had a recent foster failure meaning we now have a cat whom a homeless gentleman decided he needed to spray paint. Pretty horrifying story but the now teenage cat is doing well. He's actually bananas! We also have another elderly rescue cat and dog, too, and one almost 17 (!!) year old cat who is a neighbor's who has adopted us.) I'm crazy but love the chaos. I think animals are healing.
-
Oh, my icon pic is the spray paint kitty during the holidays in a baby shirt. LOL I named him Banksy after the grafitti/spray paint artist. My little love wink.
-
MariH, I'm hoping your margins are clear this go around.
EastCoastTS - someone spray painted a cat??? OMG that is so awful, but I am so glad the kitty has someone like you to foster. I have two older cats (15 and around 11 or 12 yrs) and don't want to add another to the mix, but I've thought of fostering later on down the line. I am definitely an animal lover. I prefer them to people most of the time.
I've decided I need to get a bed wedge/wedge pillow before this next surgery. I couldn't sleep lying flat on my back after the last one, and had a horrible time getting up when I was lying flat (my biggest SE was abdominal and neck pain from the anesthesia - it was like horrible lactic acid buildup). Does anyone know if I can get my surgeon to write a prescription for one so insurance might pay?
-
I would call your insurace. Say you require a wedge for proper positioning . Given what I know about what DME is not covered, I would be surprised if it is covered (DME=durable medical equipment )but it is worth a shot. Or, if there is a social worker or care coordinator at any of your doctors (there is one at my MO) they could help.
Let us know how you make out
-
East, your Banksy is adorable!
Pugs, I got my wedge pillow at Walmart.com and used it every single night for 3 weeks. It's the 7" one. I think it was around $19.
We said we'd NEVER foster, God laughed when we said that. Took in a Pom/Coyote mix (wink) because her daddy was going in the hospital. So this was a temporary situation. Well, her daddy passed away and there was no way we were going to find her a home, she chose us and is blossoming so much.
Mari, hope those margins are clear.
Hugs to all.

Hi, everyone!
Had a second follow up with PS Monday, and he said everything is healing beautifully and he doesn't need to see me again until I'm ready for the second stage surgery. Yay! And I got even BETTER news from my BS, who called to say my genetic testing was negative, and my oncotype score is a 16! So those test results along with clear nodes and a 1cm margin mean no chemo! I am so, so grateful and relieved!!! Three week post-op yesterday, so I'm planning to return to the office mid-week next week and see how it goes.
Pugs - I got my wedge from Bed Bath & Beyond and it has been hands down the most helpful item I bought in preparation of surgery. I got an adjustable one that folds into four different positions, and its plush and comfy. It was around $100, which I wasn't thrilled about...but it definitely turned out to be money well spent! I use it for everything from working to sleeping
-
Xtina78, congrats on the great news! Thanks for the tip about Bed Bath & Beyond. It's near the medical supply store I'm going to this afternoon, so I'll look there, as well. Do you know the brand/name of the one you got?
-
Wonderful wonderful news Xtina!!! So happy for you. I'm waiting on my Oncotype, I hope to get the same results as you. Now go celebrate!!
-
Mari sending prayers for clear margins this go round. Eastcoast. . .I never thought about asking if insurance would pay for special bed pillow/wedge. It's worth a try. Dh bought me the total body pillow from Sam's Club a week after BMx and I still sleep with it.
I'm slowly progressing with my recovery; still frustrated but determined to be patient.

xtina: Wonderful news! I am so happy for you.

It's a Brookstone 4-in-1 Bed Wedge Pillow.

Well, my return to work this week after exchange surgery March 21 has been an epic fail. Have developed infection in left breast incision, pus, feel feverish but my drugstore thermometer reads 99. PS prescribed Z Pack, which is code word for nausea and diarrhea. I am so mad at my body and angry that I can't do anything!! Just want to cry. I need balloons and a cake for my pity party 🎉 😟
-
Oh no Bluebird! I'm so sorry. Your body is saying NO UH UH, LAY DOWN NOW! Please take care of yourself and rest.
-
Yvonne, you're right! So hard, but I'm just being a couch potato and taking naps. Not in my nature though. Thank goodness for this site and QVC! Lol
-
bluebirdgirl, I am so sorry. That just stinks. I am throwing a pity party for you as requested.
-
I love it Molly!
-
I have 4 more weeks of restrictions and then PS said I can return to my normal life! He wants me to wear the sports bra for four more weeks and then switch to my underwire. The underwire is necessary to create the underside of my foob. Right now it has no real definition. Of course the right side is already trying to drop but lefty was the radiated side so staying up. I am going to be very upset if I have to wear a bra all the time to not be lopsided.
-
Xtina, great news! What a relief!
Bluebird, I'm sorry about your infection. I'll bring the cake! Get lots of rest, and give your immune system lots of support. Home made soup, or for those hipsters out there " bone broth", and things like wheat grass can be helpful. And LOTS of water! Hugs! You will get thru this!!!!
-
great news molly. When did you have your surgery? What did you have done? Is anyone out there brain dead like I am? I didn't have chemo, but 3 surge rise and my brain is really failing me. I hope that passes before I go back to work!
I hope my PS says go on with your life soon!
-
2Fun, I had my bilateral exchange surgery on the 21st. So I am 16 days post op and healing really well. Sadly, bluebirdgirl was my surgery twin and she has an infection.
-
Thanks for the pity party, Molly!! Lol. Love the balloons! I wish I had lots of sick leave/vacay time but I do not, sadly. That was one of reasons I tried to goback this week. Felt great Monday....then bam! Glad you are healing well. 2Fun, I'm sure your brain function will return soon. Sending positive thoughts. And I'm drinking lots of water, but no bone broth 😳
-
Bluebird. . .hugs, take care and rest. Amazon is my QVC. Trying to watch more Netflix as that's paid for.
Molly lol on the pity party. We're on the same timeline for restrictions. I'm already tired of wearing a sport type compression bra 24/7.
Scottie
-
Scottie, I have never in my life slept in a bra. I hate it but it is only 4 more weeks!
-
hello to all my sisters on this crazy journey. I'm new to all of this. Diagnosed in January, all tumors were supposed to be under 4 cm. Surprised after March 3 surgery to discover one measured 13 cm😱 Still waiting on oncotype, but I know radiation is in my future. Still trying to wrap my head around the craziness. Lymph nodes were negative as well as bone scan. Waiting to get CT scan next. Nice to know I'm not alone
