Hello All,

I don't know if anyone has asked this before, I have searched but can't find the answer anywhere. About the cancer has left its origin site, spread through the blood stream ,not lymph. How aggressive it is ? and Is it hard to heal ?

Would like to hear more about that.

Thanks

    Hello Beatmon

Im very glad I can found you here , my mom was in the same situation as you.

she was the dx with stage IV with mtes to her lungs . weakly ER positive ( < 5%) and HER2+++. .She had been on Femara a for a month ago . CT scan showed up the mets become bigger then the Onco given her for 8 cycles of taxol and Herceptin and All lungs mets are stable and no new mets . Anyway the Onc will switch her to Xeloda along with herceptin by the end of the month.

what kind of protocol are you going on ? and your onc say anything about spread through the blood stream ? could you share me some experiences and advice?

    Thank you very much

    Orawan,

Maybe this information from the U.S. National Cancer Institute will help you:

Orawan, when I was first diagnosed with bc, it was thought to be stage 2 because MRIs did not show any lymph node involvement. Then after a suspicious bone scan, which the oncologist ordered as a baseline, I had a PET scan and mets to the bone were diagnosed. It was crappy to be thinking, hey, I can beat this cuz its stage 2 and then have the rug pulled out from me further when the mets were revealed. Among other things i didn't know about bc was that it could spread via blood. I had erroneously thought it only spread through lymph nodes. Ah, well.

But the better news is I am 6+ years stable with the disease. I had neoadjuvant chemotherapy which shrunk breast tumor a good bit as well as the bone mets. I then had a lumpectomy and chose not to have sentinel node removal. Why mess with them when they showed no involvement? I thought, leave well enough alone and don't be invading the lymph system. Then on to 33 rounds of radiation and been on Arimidex since then.

I had 7 rounds of Taxotere with Herceptin and Perjeta....and now remain on Herceptin and Perjeta until something changes.

DivineMrsM, I refused sentinel node on the non cancerous side...I asked what it could do for me since I was having BM and was having one on left. My right breast was very busy with adenosing sclerosis and cysts on pathology but no cancer so I was glad I didn't have any extra invasions done
