Radiation after chemo

Hi,

I'm 26 and I was diagnosed with aggressive invasive ductal carcinoma. My treatment plan so far has been TCHP chemo treatments every 3 weeks. I have had a lymph node biopsied and it was positive for cancer but it has not spread anywhere else, my bones chest cavity are all clear on the scans. I am planning to have double mastectomy and reconstruction. I have 2 more chemo treatments to go.

My doctor mentioned to me about having radiation after chemo and hormone therapy (which is like putting your body in menopause). I told her last time she brought it up that I would not do the hormone therapy and I was unsure if I would do radiation. I do not want to feel I am going through menopause at my age especially when I do not have kids yet and want them very much.

If anyone can tell me whether I should consider radiation or if it's really not nessecary please respond. I can't not make she's in my head in what to do. Radiation or no radiation?

Thank you

    Cnt breakme,

These are tough decisions and you are smart to push back and ask the questions. At the same time, I'll be blunt. Hyper-focus on this one fact. You are VERY young to be in this situation.( I think there is a thread here for young with BC.) Plus, if you have not had surgery yet, you don't know the true/final pathology of the cancer. I don't mean to alarm you and it may turn out to be the same or close to what the scans show now. IMO, hit it head on with what your doc recommends and consider getting a second and third opinion. Ps - the hormone therapy doesn't last forever and it's very effective. Unless, your doc said otherwise, it's usually not permanent menopause.

Thank you for responding, I have been very unsure of things lately. ButI had a partial mastectomy done in December, and that is where they found out how severe it was. And then I got a second opinion, the second opinion is where the hormone therapy was brought up. I have already started chemo so freezing my eggs isn't an opinion. I have been receiving the lupron shot that "puts your ovaries to sleep" and usually leaves them unharmed once chemo is done.

I have estrogen and her2 positive receptors they found from the partial mastecom
