Susan, Elena looks so happy on the swing. 👍 to the improvised coat. Got to do what you got to do to. I am sure Elena thinks you are the funniest grandma.
Shepk and Ms. Sas.....how to look youthful with the walker. Sure you have seen this photo before.
Feline, I am not far behind from you ('68)
-
Ms. Sas, I can't find any information linking Tramadol (alone) to muscle spasm. It is possible if taken with drugs that affect the serotonin level or serotonin receptors. Examples are Prozac, Cymbalta, Zoloft, Lexapro, Imitrex, Relpax, and Zofran to name a few.
-
Loverly ~ You know my walker would have more kitties on it!
-
Wenchie ~ Woo-Hoo! No more zappings! May your skin heal up nice 'n quick while you take your time to rest and relax at home 💜
M0mmy ~ Bravo on the good scans! And for having such a sweet fella to leave you sweets in your purse. 😊
Patty! ~ Good to see you girl! 🦋
Jazzy ~ Hope your birthday was as awesomely special as you are 🌷
Sassy!!!! ~ Everyone put their pins back on!
Mags ~ been keeping you close in my thoughts and praying that you get some relief (((hugs)))
Big (((hugs))) and waves to all. I'm doing okay but having so much done to me so quickly has reallly knocked me on my arse. The home nurse came for last visit last Friday. The home PT ladies plan on coming at least twice a week for the couple of months. My balance and vision are still waaay off. Kinda bummed that the nerves will take so long to heal.
I was tapering the Decadron down but my headaches started getting bad again. As of today I'm taking 2 mg 4x daily. My BFF is coming for a short visit and will be here Saturday. I am glad I won't have to be worried about feeling ucky from a med change.
Sweet Dreams to All!
-
Wenchie, well isn't that special. Superdoopermothergooser to hear that you are healing so fast. I'll second Loverly's triple YAY. I know we are all sighing a sigh of relief.
I don't have a problem with you giving him the info. It's the pebble in the pond thing, you never know how far the ripple will go. Seeing the ripple go out is a nice comforting feeling. What do you think, should I go in and revise, or leave it alone. In the past I've gone in on old posts and thought, sheesh the writings awful. Other times it's like wow, I wrote that. I could make myself crazy with revisions. It is a consideration that other products may have value i.e the Aquaphor and the only one I talked about is the Silvadene. Well, we will think on it.
Your pic with the bell is great. Your eyes and smile are beautiful.
-
Loverly, The ladies on the walker is special
Tramadol has a serotonergic effect as well as pain reliever. That's why I went on it that summer daily b/c I didn't want the serotonin level bouncing around. Possibly, I am way sensitive b/c it's metabolized through 2D6 and 3A4. My 3A4 is intermediate(slow). I found lot's of stuff on the muscle spasms. What key words did you use? I used Tramadol and muscle spasm. There were many hits. Were you in the PDR and Formulary only?
-
OMD Shep you are too funny. Kitties and pins. Aw shucks. ....Wow BFF visit, Mags just had a BFF visit. We need a third!
DS got to do an Oral defense in the florida court of appeals again yesterday. I think that's his third appellate case. Two state and one federal. Remember when we were all listening to him for the first one.
Insomnia grhhhhhh, going to try again.
-
Morning all
-
Shepk, thank you! How are you feeling this morning? The more kitties the better! With everything you've been through you need to relax and have a great time with your BFF!
Sassy, thank you! I'd leave your post just the way it is. You're the bomb! If I had to do this all over again I'd use just the silvadene and forget all the other products... except maybe the calendula. My RO gave me 3 refills on the huge jar of silvadene and I'll be sure to get all 3 of them filled!
Healing hugs to All 🤗
-
Patty: (waves hello, 'cause never too many people welcoming you back)
Susan3: Still cheered by that picture of Elena, grinning so wide, tucked into her improvised coat.
-
CONGRATULATIONS WENCH LORI DON'T LOOK BACK!!
-
Good Job Lori! Onward and upwards!
-
morning gals
-
Good morning!
Want to crawl back under my blanket, but need to get ready to go meet the lovely ladies for breakfast.
-
I wîll be under my blanket all day. Chemo week. Did to much yesterday. Puppy won't be happy today :
-
Susan...Hugs. See you next week...Elana(sic/) is getting so big, Beautiful baby. Where is she at in development? I see sitting. Crawling? Claire and Andy? Residency?
Hi Queenie....I heard you went back to school. Last I was here you were trying to decide what you wanted to do. What did you decide to do? How's it going? Crazy question, but do you see a difference in learning since all the BC stuff?Smarrty hello, what's up with you? The bowl I posted is in the same pattern Cambridge, Caprice that I sent you. It's the only piece I have ever found thrifting. All the other pieces I bought off Ebay years ago. It was a hold my breath moment when I saw it. It was even 50 % off that day at the SPCA thrift. $7.50. Thrilling.
Mags, I have no room for anything, but glass rescue is a passion. I rehome a lot.
-
The other day I said I was sending Ewagen a PM. It's not that I haven't sent very similar PM's before, but now wondering if it's a good thing or a bad thing. Still going through a transition mental thingy. I need your opinions as BC'ers. How would you have felt receiving this? Would it increase anxiety or be a tool to know what to do?
"Not to worry you but
1. push for an MRI. It will take a push. .....or
2. follow up US every three months for a year. US is great b/c it reduces your radiation exposure.
3. avoid constantly pushing/(palpating) it. That will cause swelling and pain in the area, allow for say once a week check, very gently. Usually we do breast checks once a month--right. But when we have these scares in life the NORMAL reaction is to feel it all the time. Trust me you will cause trouble pushing on it all the time. OKAY? But I did want you to know the compulsion to constantly check it out was a normal human response.
Check in with me if you have questions or the folks on the thread.
Love&Hugs&Prayers>>L&H&P's sassy"
-
SAS, I think what you sent is fine.
-
Wenchi, Good in regards to leaving it alone. I think I had in there something about wound care referrals. I'll look, but my thought is as follows.
" With wounds a referral for wound care is an option. The two options are to a center or have a referral for a Certified Wound Care R.N.(CWOC) to come to the home. The advantage of going to a center is you see a doctor. The disadvantage is potentially exposure to bacteria. Similar to the risk of exposure to hospital bacteria. The docs have taken special training in wounds, but it actually isn't as intensive as the CWOC RN. The CWOCRN is only certified by having taken a very intensive semester long course at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. They are very skilled and very knowledgeable about wound care and ostomy products. Most hospitals and centers will have a CWOC RN on staff that the docs consult for treatment recommendations.
There are essentially two types of wounds 1.Clean i.e no bacteria, 2. Dirty(universal slang) i.e bacteria or infected. There are many similarities in treatment. But there are products that would be used differently depending if it were a clean or a dirty wound. The drug discussed here is silvadene. GREAT drug, but must be used appropriately or it can cause trouble with the skin around the wound.
One more option for those that have radiation burns is to ask for a referral for wound care to a local burn unit if one is reasonably close. They usually have outpatient wound and dressing care areas attached to the burn units. Personally, if a burn unit is available, I really like this option b/c "that's their business". But thousands to millions of patients with radiation burns are successfully treated without going to burn centers."
Okay Wenchi what do you think?
-
Wenchi, another thought. When I wrote that stuff on the wound care thread I was still licensed, ergo, it was different than now. So, I will leave it untouched unless it's grammar or sentence structure. The post above is a general information type thing that would be considered in the public domain. I have been very careful about how I say things since I let my license go.
-
Sassy, I think your adding more info about wound care is a great idea! What you sent to a fellow BC Sister is very appropriate. I love receiving all of your ideas and recommendations. I'd be still floating in space without all your input on all of my particular situations. Love you to pieces! 💜💜
Feline and Mommy, thank you so much! I agree! Onward and upwards! I find myself running into my future 😍
Lover, I hope you enjoyed your breakfast with the girls this morning! I didn't crawl out fromunder my blankets until 1pm this afternoon! I'm feeling pretty drained this afternoon!
-
Wenchi...stay under those covers as long as you need to. I've had a couple of those days myself...especially when I couldn't get to sleep until 5 or 6 am!

https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/70/topics/783321?page=19
Wenchi, Part of why you didn't see specific language about rads on the wound thread was, I considered it a sub category that would need it's own research, which I didn't want to do. A rads question would come up here on BCO, I would defer and say I don't know.
I now took a look at the rads forum and found this old thread written by a RO who apparently wrote the topic box and then never stuck around. I may have to incorporate a comment into something.
You will have to read the topic box. Her position on rads burns is different than a thermal burn. I understand what she is saying about skin cells, but it if the site like yours is "acting" like a thermal burn than it should be managed like a thermal burn.
The different managements that BCO folks have been told about are more from a thermal burn standpoint. MY wound care is from a thermal burn approach. She's an RO and it sounds official, but without doing a serious search, I can't counter her.
Thermal wounds have the potential to become infected. Radiation burns have the same potential. All the caveats(info), I talked about on the thread apply. Skin assessment, cleaning, proper use of silvadene, dressing care, steps to prevent contamination, recognition of problems
I could do nothing about adding what the RO from the other thread said. Your doc was happy with the way you managed your skin. He wants the info. By his licensure, he has the legal right to do what he wants. He can use the info as is after he reads it. Done
Why all the unknowns? I don't think that the RO's have been pushed to develop a national guideline of how to do skin care. This has been done for almost all other problems. I often shook my head as to the lack of continuity of care(how too) info for rads skin care. Actually , found it scary, but I'm just jane schmooo from Florida.
So, your task is to read the RO's topic box and see if the link should be added to the wound care thread. My task then would be to figure out how to intergrate it.
The pervious post that had the new statement in it, I think should be added.
Hope this made sense.
-
Wenchi and Lita Thanks re:Ewagen post. Hopefully, others will weigh in
-
Wishing everyone a good weekend and a good start to April. Oh and April, I mean in a good way too.....
-
Sassy, thank you I will check it out. My RO explained my site not as a burn but more like the skin cells have been damaged by the radiation treatment and the skin cells can't repair themselves as quickly as usual. Makes a lot of sense to me. Someone on another thread told me the same thing, even before my RO told me. Smart people rock
-
Congratulations Wenchi ! You made it through. What is the first thing you want to do now that going to a clinic is no longer on your daily "to do" list?
Hey Sas! Your glass finds are quite lovely.
Mags - What show are you going to see? I got to see my first play back on March 3rd. It was called "The Open House" All about dysfunctional family relationships. It was well done, but the father character was so narcissistic that I I wanted to push him over a cliff. I actually said it out loud and got a scowl from another audience member. Oh well.
Susan - Cute pics of Elena. she is growing so much. Pretty blankets. Did you knit the pink one with the cable? Here's hoping Baily will be understanding with you.
Kirby will be home in 6.5 days. I wonder how much he has grown. He turned 6 mos. old last Wednesday the 29th. Trainer said he'd had a lot of fun running around and through the rain & mud. I sure hope he got a bath. Saw a Facebook post from his birth family that said that Kirby's half brother Eric is living just 25 miles away from us.
Feline - The pics of your DD dancing are beautiful.
Mommy - Glad your scan came out good. The brownie in your purse was very kind of your DH.
This has been a LONG week. I volunteered all 5 days and have completed only 11 of the 26 letters of the alphabet in this project I'm working on. Once Kirby is home I won't be able to spend as much time there if they don't allow me to bring him with me. I'll be glad when this project is done.
Well the pillow and my blankets are calling my name, so I am going to answer the call. Sleep well dear ladies and Happy April 1st!
-
Morning all. First time I have slept past 6 a.m. in a long while. Was kept awake until about midnight because some idiots moving stuff into a house in my area after 9 p.m. Making all sorts of noise and talking very loudly while we were trying go to sleep. They even kept poor Jackson awake with their racket. Felt like going out there and confronting them
