Endometrial Biopsy, Endometritis, Fibroids. What's Next Step?
I've had periodic postmenopausal bleeding for years, both before and after BC diagnosis and LX over 2 years ago. I've had a couple each of endometrial biopsies and D & C's over the years, all coming back normal. Gyn recommended a wait and see approach. For a number of reasons including these problems, I did not start tamoxifen or AI's after LX. My latest endometrial biopsy results were less clear but after a second opinion, was determined to be normal. In a follow up ultrasound a 5cm uterine fibroid was discovered located half inside and half in the lining, but no thickening of the lining. The Gyn talked with me about possibility of starting on progesterone but my BC was ER and PR positive so instead she again wants to "wait and see" before looking at other options like surgery. I'm not sure I'm comfortable continuing to wait and see but I've already had a second opinion so I'm unsure what to do next.
Anyone have experience with similar issues and can tell me what you decided to do?

bumping to see if anyone has advice for me!

ceanna - I had endometriosis & fibroids - lots of prolific flow & pain. I had a partial hysterectomy 30 years ago - the uterus & tubes were removed with the ovaries left in tact. Sorry, this doesn't relate to breast cancer, but it's absolutely the best thing I ever did. I can't believe I waited & waffled about it for 4 or 5 years before committing.

Ceanna,
Was Tamoxifen/AI recommended for you to prevent recurrence/mets? Are you done having children? If so, the risks of having a partial hysterectomy, as Minustwo describes, might be outweighed by the benefit of going on the estrogen inhibitors. I understand that if you have a good surgeon, it can be done laparoscopically with minimal risk.

Hi Ceanna: when I had post menopausal fibroids, bleeding, etc. I finally had a hysterectomy. The relief was indescribable. Just a thought ... Ann

Thanks to all of you. So far, the gyn. and second opinion do not recommend a hysterectomy. I don't have pain, just bleeding a scant amount many days of the month and mild bloating from the size of the fibroids. Tamoxifen and AIs are contraindicated with other medical problems, so that's out. Maybe I should push for hysterectomy!
