Hey ladies:
Thanks so much for your wonderful support! It does make a difference to me.
I did see the surgeon - node NEGATIVE!!! Woo hoo....
She said though that I likely will need chemo, but NO radiation. The oncologist will do the oncotype testing after my mastectomy. I will find out hormone status and Her status from the pathology of the tumors removed during the mastectomy.
She referred me to the cancer centre early so that I can get in to see a social worker or someone to help me manage my anxiety.
And, she said I will have drains - I will have a nurse to come and look after these drains.
I also had pre-op today for my mastectomy. Since I am having tissue expander put in right away and then on the other side have fat grafting started on the same day, I will be in hospital at least over night with morphine pump of all things.
So.. painful?

Wallan - so glad to hear about your negative node. Hoping the rest of your news is just as good.
-
Hoping all went well. Let us know!!!
-
good news, I hope no chemo. Wallen, you will have to tell us how the fat grafting results are. Another SIL just diagnosed with DCIS and 1mm of IDC, she is having a mastectomy and fat grafting reconstruction.
-
Woot Woot !!..Great news .. node negative. !!! 😊
-
Some good news... my short time disability claim has been approved and I will start receiving payments right away.
Thats a relief...

I'm glad to hear you got more good news, wallan. I hope it helps offset some of the other stresses.
-
Great news Wallen. I know that will relieve a big chunk of worry.
-
Wonderful news. That's one issue resolved!
-
So, I got another pathology result today from my mastectomy.
Still no hormone receptor status or HER2 status - so I am very disappointed in that considering I had my biopsy in January.
But anyways, I have 5 (count them FIVE) tumors. 3 are IDC under 10 mm and 2 are ILC under 5 mm. I also had DCIS scattered throughout the tissue. The grade is 2. No lymphovascular invasion and node negative. All margins clear.
The surgeon said I am at Stage 1b
The only thing (like I said) is I am not fully staged still so I am very frustrated. The surgeon said the oncologist office will call in a few weeks and they will get the hormone status and the Oncotype Dx test. Its very slow and the waiting and wondering if i need further treatment is hard.
The surgeon says I may need radiation after all because of the extent of disease in the breast tissue and closeness of margins.
I am afraid I am going to fall thru the cracks in an irrational fear. I mean, when I asked the surgeon why there was no hormone status figured out yet, she just shrugged. I don't want to go down the rabbit hole, but I am.

wallah, that's ridiculous!!!!! Call every day and bug them and it won't be long you'll get results!!
-
Dear Wallan (which my autocorrect just changed to "Walkman". I didn't think modern technology knew what that was!)
The rabbit hole is hard to stay out of when you're worried. It sucks that you don't know all the things you need to yet. You know that once you have the info you need and can make a plan, the stress of limbo goes away. To me the hardest part is where you are, the wondering and trying to prepare. From a clinical standpoint there is never as much of a hurry as we feel. If there's something to do we want to do it now!
I'm sorry you're having to go through this crap again and I'm hoping the treatment will work like a charm and be easier- so much has changed for the better.
Hugs! Red

Hey wallan,
Just piping in...imagine if your hormone status is positive and Her2 negative so that you can have the Oncotype DX test done.
Then imagine that your Oncotype score is very low and chemo won't be needed.
Or, imagine that which you wish to hear from your oncologist. For me, it was something treatable!
Do your best to visualize yourself doing well. Have you tried meditation? Visualizing yourself whole, well and without disease can be a powerful tool in healing as well as maintaining your sanity while you wait.
Like lovinggrouches says, put in a phone call daily and bug the surgeon for your path report. It takes two weeks to determine hormone status, at least that is what it took in my experience.
You've done this before and survived. You can do it again if need be!
Hugs,
Piscean

Thanks everyone:
I will call and bug them. That is my intention. I am also going to call the cancer centre and make sure my surgeon refers me in a timely manner.
It is true, (I know from last time) that my prognosis is not worsened at all by waiting at bit. Clinically, waiting a bit is safe. Its just the anguish of not knowing what I am truly facing and what treatment plan is needed. And, I compare to my friend who got results within two weeks. So why oh why is mine taking so long?
Anyways, Piscean, it is excellent advice to visualize myself well and cancerfree right now after surgery, because really its likely true. And to visualize everything going well from here on out. Meditation is a very very good idea and reminder.

Hey wallan, sorry to hear about your ne dx especially after all this time, but that's great it was spotted early and you are node negative! Stay strong
-
Any results yet?
I've been thinking about you and hope you are healing well.
-
Hey KBeee...
No results yet. But I do have an appointment with a medical oncologist and a radiation oncologist for April 5th and April 7th.
I called the cancer centre myself. My BS office is not following up with me. Sigh....
So at least I have those appointments now.
I am still sore on mastectomy/TE side. But I am getting some energy back which is good. I do feel a bit down I think. I have no motivation to do anything.

Wallen ..Sending Hugs ..I seriously can't believe how long you have waited. !!! It's unbelievable really ..
-
wallan, I'm so sorry that on top of the recurrence you're having to wait so incredibly long for some pretty basic info AND dealing with an unresponsive BS. Geez.
-
Hey ladies:
Thanks everyone. You guys are the best.
I am relieved I have appointments booked at the cancer centre now. When no one was getting back to me, I was becoming concerned I would fall thru the cracks. So knowing I am scheduled, and I am in the system is reassuring. The cancer centre system is a different game than the general medical system. So I am crossing my fingers things will be less frustrating now. As for my pathology results, I am debating to myself if I should haunt the BS office for the report or just wait until I see the oncologist next week. Any feedback?
Sigh
wallan
-
wallan, I'd keep up the pressure on your surgeon's office, myself. In fact, I'd ask them point blank WHY it is taking so long. If necessary, I'd call the pathology office at the breast centre or wherever it was done. There is NO excuse for this. If nothing else, you don't want to get to your MO's office next week and learn that they've not received the results, either.
-
Hi Hopeful:
Yes, you are right. After I posted I thought to myself, "what if I get to the MO and they don't have the results either?"
I am going to bug the BS office in person. They don't answer the phone it goes to Voicemail.
And I will call the pathology lab too and ask - I am not sure if they will give me answers but I can try.
wallan
-
Go to the hospital and ask for a copy of the pathology report in medical records
-
Geez, Beatmon - of course!! Good thinking.
-
Wallan, remember, squeaky wheel gets the grease!!! Always works for me. Good luck
-
Wallen ..Yes I definitely think it's best to chase the results too ..Like you said you don't want to get to the MO appointment to find out they don't have the results either ..It seems very strange that so much time has passed , and you still haven't heard anything ...Thinking of you ..
-
Hey Lucy55, Bluebird, Beatmom, hopeful, KBee..
Happy April 1st to ya; Thanks for checking in.
I have chased down my results. They are at the PS office. I asked if I can get a copy and they told me it is very long report but they will print it off for me and I can pick it up on Tuesday when I go in for my fill appointment. They did not go over it on the phone because the PS nor the nurse were there.
I did try the medical records at the hospital first - they said I need to fill out a request form, pay $50 fee, have a consultation report with some office admin person which I need to book an appointment with. Holy crappola! They said to try to get it from the PS office if I want it right away. I was shocked!
So, anyways, I will know in a few days. My MO appt is Wednesday. I also see a radiologist on Friday. Its interesting to see a radiologist so fast. Last time, I met the radiologist after chemo was over.
I am relaxing this weekend and am adjusting to this whole journey, so I am feeling not too anxious today. I am relieved there is a full pathology report I must admit. I was beginning to wonder.... I am sure come Tuesday, I will be anxious as to the results.
I will let you all know for sure.

Hey everyone:
An update. I went to my PS today and and the nurse would not give the pathology report because they said the PS is not qualified to go over it with me and neither is the BS. So I have to wait until the oncologist goes over it with me.
Can you friggin believe it?
So tomorrow I see the oncologist. Then I will finally finally know what the hormone status is of my BC.
I will let you know.
