Frequency of Mammograms post-treatment?
Hello everyone!
I'm just curious about how often your oncologists have you doing mammograms and/or MRIs after you are all done with treatment. In particular, I'm curious about fellow Triple Negative Breast Cancer patients, as these tumors tend to grow the fastest and therefore seem to me to warrant more frequent checks. I had my first "regular" screening 3D mammogram post-treatment in April 2016, then an MRI in the fall of 2016, and another regular 3D mammogram today (all clear, by the way, yay). But I think my MO just has me scheduled to continue doing annual mammograms, NOT the MRIs, unless I misunderstood him. I don't feel happy with that--I'd prefer some sort of screening every 6 months, at least for several years I think. I think given the aggressive nature of our Triple Negative BC, and how it can be called an "interval" cancer for being found between screens, I'd prefer more frequency. I'll see him in a few months and will probably argue for another fall MRI, but in the meantime, I'm curious to hear what others have experienced in the post-treatment phase.
Thanks,
Tulips

I'm every six months - mammo, then MRI, then mammo, then MRI for 5 years.
I had lobular though, and MRIs are more likely to detect than mammos. I really don't feel that secure after a clean mammo and it missed my cancer for at least two mammos, possibly more.

Annual 3D mammos only
-
annual 3D mammos and ultrasound (I insist)

Hi Tulips,
Are your breasts dense? If so, mammography is known to be a poor screening tool. My tumour did not show up at all on my mammogram; it only appeared on the MRI. If you don't have this info, I think it would be a good idea to find it and use it to guide any decisions you and your doctor make about future screening.

I have only had mammograms so far. Just had my 6 month post treatment and don't see her again til march 2018. It feels weird after going through so many tests when first diagnosed

Thanks ladies!
And blamoms, I agree--it's strange to go from so much monitoring to relatively infrequent. But it does free up your mind to move on ;-)
