CT scan shows new lung nodules and likely new cancer..

Options

This is not what I wanted my first post to be!

I just finished a year of breast cancer treatments and new symptoms prompted a CT scan.  (I had random,  recurrent nausea/vomiting.  So, not even related to the findings, possibly).

My medical team is in the process of scheduling PET scan, MRI, and consults to lung specialist.,  My MO  stated "there is a chance that it is not cancer".  But being the overthinking RN, and having easy access to reports with patient portals, I read my radiology report yesterday and feel I now understand the new  worry in my doctor's voice.  Ugh.  I have  only shared general info with minimal family/coworkers who watch over me closely- until I know anything for certain.  I am trying to focus on enjoying good days while I have them.

But the fear with only having recently finished treatment, and wondering how strong I can be if needed, is tough to ignore.

When I finish this note I am going to go walk my dog (who has been recovering from her own knee surgery these past 4 months)!

It has been such a tough 6 years in my family with so many illnesses and challenges with my kids and parents!  My husband and I were so hoping for a break!

Thanks for letting me vent-- any good thoughts or suggestions are appreciated,

Hoping the lung nodules are something other than cancer. Please do keep us posted!

Well, I finally had my PET scan--and results were inconclusive!  Yay!  (I think).

My MO had a conference with several lung specialists, and the consensus opinion was-- to wait and repeat scans in 2-3 months.  That given my history of recently completing treatment, it is more likely an pneumonia or infection.  And waiting will not affect  any potential  need for treatment.

There was some frustration expressed by my MO that the radiologist did not specify how much the nodule "lit up",  (standardized uptake value).  I am surprised that this information was not included as I had my scan at large cancer center  and thought it would have been more complete?

Has anyone ever taken their images to a different radiologist for a more complete result?

I am somewhat relieved to have the opportunity to  not worry for another 2 or 3 months.  I shall think like Scarlett, "and worry about it tomorrow!" -- At least I will most days!
