Is anyone else looking forward to a vacation after treatment?

soriya, do you know about Little Pink Houses of Hope? The organization gives women with breast cancer and their families a 1-week beach vacation. Lake Tahoe was added to the list of sites this year. Maybe you could apply to attend a retreat in 2014. Www.littlepink.org -
Thanks for info Rhonda.

Thanks Ronda- you are so great.
If any of you go to Tahoe please come visit me in Sacramento! You would either fly in here or Reno. Lake Tahoe is worth the trip. Also wine country in fall (Napa- Sonoma) and our beautiful Northern CA beaches- Pacifica, Half Moon Bay, Monterey. I am lucky to live right in the middle of all that beauty. I lived away from Northern CA for years, to do my Ph.D. and early training and then came back here to Sacto. Love it.
It is great to have our "lists" - I refuse to call them bucket lists but maybe "go to"lists!
Please keep sharing yours ladies, I love to hear about all of the wonderful places in this world!
hugs

Agree..NO bucket lists, YES to go lists.
-
On my "to go" list is Maui - hopefully in february if the crushing schedule of my job does not interfere- but definitely to the Bahamas in april, after my brother's wedding in the Keys (he lives there, lucky boy).
Ronda told me earlier on this thread about a place in the Bahamas that has PINK sands and I have been dreaming about it ever since!!!!
Happy dreaming ladies, and power to you in fighting the big C beast.

I just returned from Aruba and I highly recommend vacations. It was a blissful week free of cancer. It really renewed me, reduced my stress and made me happier. Now to hold onto that feeling is the trick. Back to work and I'm dead tired today. So I'm going to look at my pictures and hope it puts me back in the happy relaxed mood. -
Oh my goodness what a great topic. I would LOVE to be looking forward to a great vacation this coming summer. What a fabulous topic. I ready need to put some thought into this as I ready do love this idea. -
Still counting down to Cancun in February and may swing a beach trip over the summer. My niece will graduate high school in June 2015 so I am taking her to Disney...Figure better to give her memories than gadgets...... LOL
-
Good for you twohobbies! I have always wondered about Aruba. it sounds divine!
I have a digital photo frame on my desk at work to remind me of prior beach trips, maybe you can get one of those to prolong the memories? it helps on boring conference calls haha.
Welcome furfriend, yes- it is all about the dreaming and planning. That helps me get through some rough patches, for sure!
Odie that is a GREAT gift. Memories that will be treasured with a very cool aunt. Love it.
Thanks girls, keep dreaming!!
-
Odie i so agree with you on the memories, not gadgets.
Sciencegal, that digital photo frame is a great idea. Maybe I'll ask Santa for one of those! Aruba is dry and very hot. It was 88 degrees every day but great for being in the water and nice breezes if you are just in the shade. The resort was beautiful. Across from the resort its a little too touristry for my taste but you can just avoid it. The people are very friendly. Even the plan ride was beautiful and crossed over many more islands to see. I'm glad we went.

Well I got ot go to a work conference in New Orleans. I love that city. It wasnt a tropical island but a fun time nevertheless.
We stayed on Bourbon street and really enjoyed Spirits bar and - of course- tropical isle. Had a few grenades there.
Much fun and it was nice to not think about stupid cancer for awhile!
Please keep sharing your trips and dreams ladies!

Hey there sciencegal, sounds like a lovely getaway, even if work was involved! I'm glad you were in the middle of the excitement. 🍹🍹
I'd love to hear more adventure stories!
-
Thanks Ronda, It was indeed super fun. And the New Orleans trip photos are now on my electronic frame at work, hopefully people won't think I am a real boozehound since I am waving "hand grenades" in some of them!
When in Rome, right?
Is anyone getting a trip for Christmas? Please share if so, we love to live vicariously.
-
Any fun travel just completed or planned for anyone? I have been working too hard over the last month, and need to live vicariously!!!
-
science gal. I went to New Orleans, first time ever, in October, with my hubby. Saw some sites, then had my DIEP surgery.
Now I am planning to go back the end of this month, this time for a second stage surgery which should be less "intense"...I will be traveling with 4 friends and get to see New Orleans parades that lead up to Mardi Gras. It's not a day at the beach but its away!

I love New Orleans! Please have some hand grenades for me. I hope your surgery goes really smoothly!
-
never heard of a hand grenade...I will have to look into that!
-
I am getting ready to go to the Florida Keys in a few weeks for my brother's wedding, woohoo!!
Anyone else doing anything fun this summer?
We can't let stupid cancer "win".

Its a long story, but I held off on chemo and more surgery for 4 months so I could go to Greece, where I consider home. I'd had many, many major loses in the few years BC (before cancer). Within 24 hours of notice, I was railroaded into canceling that trip for the 4th time in two years and setting an OR date six days later before my breast MRI that changed my lumpectomy into a mastectomy; only to find out it was bc my surgeon was going on vacation.
I wrapped my arm, took several forms of public transportation and hours to get to the airport, had no reservations for once I landed and winged it. I also went sunbathing and swimming topless like I always do there. Nobody stared or cared about my huge scar and concave hole in my chest.
-
I am so glad you went Bluepalace- that's the spirit!
My goal- more beaches.
Greece sounds wonderful.....
-
bumping this so I can vicariously enjoy your vacations.
I'm going on a 2-week transatlantic cruise next week. Will see Ireland, England and France for the first time. Then a trip to a quiet island in the Bahamas with DH in May.
How about you
-
Christmas in Jamaica sounds fabulous. I'm sorry you had to cancel, but your camping and hiking trip sounds great, particularly since it has a place in your memory.
-
We are going on a hiking trip to Utah soon. When I was feeling really unwell during chemo, I would visualize myself healthy and strong, walking through "The Narrows" in Zion National Park. I am so thrilled that the dream that carried me through this storm will soon be a reality.
