Eye exam finding

Hi there,

I am trying not to be scared, but I have to be honest, i'm a little worried.  Went in for a regular eye exam for new glasses.  They saw something "in" my eye with the new "scan" they do.  It looked like a blob of white shaving cream with the waves... with a little gray... or maybe some "smoke".  Either way... I will know Friday as I am seeing an actual ophthalmologist for an ultrasound of my eye.   Of course I'm worried that it's Mets.  She said it could be a nevus trying to form... or possibly a melanoma.  Or radiation damage.... etc.  I wasn't even worried about this appointment for a change!!  That's what I get for letting my guard down and just trying to have a good day!  Sheesh.

    Oh, good grief! Just what you need! :(

    And of course the temptation is to research eye mets, right? Ask me how I know...

    I think an opthalmologist is a good way to go. I had my first appointment with one last month, and I think it's wise to have some sort of medical relationship with one.

    Let us know how it goes, and if at all possible, try not to worry!

    I am a hospital coder as well, so medical research is a part of my job daily, and I know how to do it well. I can't help myself. "My Oncologist said to me one day.... you know what your problem is? You know TOO much"! She's right though. I'm not sure that it's bad if you know the truth, but sometimes i'd like to bask in a little denial!!! LOL Of course in my job I only see the worst outcomes too- you know, the ones that get sick enough to be in the hospital for more than two days. And the ones with recurrences after 20 or more years. Sooooo, yeahhhh.

    On the positive side (really I do try) i'm happy that i have a work from home job. That's been a God-send, so we will give the thumbs up for that today!

    At least i'm not alone in my Dr. Googling! And i'm thankful for people like you that understand what it's like to be always watching out for that other shoe to drop. I get so tired of hearing people tell me to just live each day as it comes.... or don't think about it... etc. I am who I am.... and who I am worries all the time. If I could take a magic pill that would make it stop I would gladly take it, but years of therapy have not cured "who I am". So.... the best I can do is inject as much humor/sarcasm as I can into it.

    Hi Jenny-any news on your eye? My friend had something similar and it turned out to be a benign mole

    Right now officially it is considered to be an "atypical" nevus (mole)-- it's unusual looking, but for now not looking like mets or melanoma either. They will be re-imaging monthly in order to watch it.... and after a year start spreading out the imaging -- just to be sure that it isn't an unusual mets or developing into a melanoma. So for now good news!! I can go with that, and at least I know it's being watched carefully. Thanks so much for the feedback!!!
