Looking for a job

Options

I have a full time job where I have worked for just over 10 years. I had a mastectomy with reconstruction (DIEP) on 3/2. Currently, I am on short term disability until 4/17. The plan is to return to work and continue to work while I get my weekly Taxol and Herceptin (12 treatments), then Herceptin every three weeks for 9 months.

My company has gone through several reorganizations in the past 3 years. It's being mismanaged, but the owner is at fault and has gotten himself into the position to reacting to industry changes rather than being innovative and ahead of everything like he used to be. A year ago my department was eliminated. We were basically demoted to a new type of department. I used to earn commissions and when the department was eliminated, they did a calculation and decided they would pay a monthly amount they came up with (which was pretty fair) but never said it would last. No one expected it to and all of us (30 people) started looking for work elsewhere. I had no luck, obviously, and then I was diagnosed.

Well, Thursday, while I was meeting with my oncologist, a few people were let go and everyone with a commission was told no more. I got a voicemail informing me. If I weren't off, I'd be upping my job search, which had admittedly been half hearted on my part because I love my job and hoped things would change. But now I'm not sure anyone would hire me. My older daughter starts college in September and losing 1/4 my pay like this is a huge hit.

I feel trapped. I know no one will hire me full time in this condition, but maybe I could get a part time job on weekends? How realistic is that

Good luck to you. I know it is difficult.

I wonder the same thing. How realistic would it be for me to find a part time job. I am just starting my Radiation and I am bald.
