Ocular mets

Options

I couldn't find a topic related to this so I am starting a new one to see if anyone has any words of wisdom of me...I was hoping to make it to 5 years without a recurrence but it isn't looking good right now...I started having an achy pain in my right eye after a bad winter cold about 4 months ago. I thought it was a sinus infection but then the double vision set in and the pain got worse. I was told it was tension headaches, sinus headaches or eye strain but I finally saw a neuro-opthamologist who ordered an MRI of the orbits - her words "to see just what's growing in there"... the pain is debilitating, can't concentrate, can't drive, can't read or use my eyes without the pain getting worse. I'm waiting for the results of the MRI, wishing it was "nothing" but pretty sure it is ocular mets - the symptoms fit all the descriptions and nothing has helped the pain, it only has gotten worse. I am so sad to think this beast has come back...sigh...

Hmm.... I'm no eye expert, but I asked my eye doctor about ocular mets. He pointed out that one of the scans he does annually would show whether or not mets were developing in my eyes. He also said that ocular mets are very rare and that in 20 years of practice, he's seen exactly one case.

Again, I'm not an eye expert by any means. But, my nephew has a benign brain tumor located close to the visual cortex. If the tumor grows, he will have some pretty bad headaches and his eyesight will worsen. He gets a brain MRI every six months, and so far it's been stable. Oy. I'm not sure you'd want a benign brain tumor, either! Sorry. All I can offer you are ((Hugs))!

(((ElaineTherese))) thank you so much for the words of hope...I'm feeling so alone, back in that time of uncertainty that I had when I was first diagnosed - a benign "anything" would be welcome at this time:) I hope I get the MRI results in the next week so I know what I'm dealing with...

Oh Maureen - I can't imagine what you are feeling. Crossing my fingers and toes that it is not mets, and also that whatever it is, it is easily treatable. Lifting you up to the universe. Hugs here too. Hanging with you. Let us know, k?

Maureen, I have had trouble with my right eye also right ear. My eye got dry and painful. I thought it was the dry fall air last year. It did feel like a sinus infection. My doctor stopped the exemestane and it started to get much better. I still feel pressure from time to time but I guess it is ok. Kind of funny that my right eye was affected not the left. I use eye drops all the time now. I too felt it could be cancer but doctors say no. My eye doctor is keeping track of it.

Sounds like you have more pain than I did. Good luck.

Maureen, I'm so sorry you're having this pain. My hopes and prayers are with you for a good result on your MRI with no ocular mets, and maybe an answer to what IS causing your pain. Sounds like we both need wine - and soon!! *hug*. You're in my thoughts

I hope you guys are ok. It is so scary when your eyes are at risk. I am in shock, I just lost my father. We both had eye problems. My dad had brain bleeding which was thought to manifest with eye pressure like a sinus infection. Well he had stroke symptoms and lost his speech. A terrible headache ensued and he had surgery to release the pressure. He never regain conscious after surgery. I thought for sure he had another 10 years.
