Magic ..I'm sure they will be very happy little tulip bulbs with the rain and the sun ☺

Teka - wondering about what your Hubby uses in his potato leek soup. I don' t think of potato leek soup as Itallian - French or possible Swiss or German. I learned to make it the way I do from our maid when we lived in France when I was a child so - to me, it's French. Also, the way I cook sauerkraut was learned from her and is French - rather different than most think of sauerkraut tasteing/being..
Last Fall, I was give 100's of different Iris. Planted as many as I had room for but gave the vast majority away. When I was out walking Buggsy (my Mini Rex Bunny) earlier today, there were some of the Iris trying to come up. Nothing else is trying to come up yet that I could see - not even any of the hollyhocks trying yet. About a week ago I did see the first small flock (probably betwween 25 - 40) of Canadian honkers heading north.
Buggsy started shedding earlier than he usually does this year. He lives inside in his 'house' so unless we go for a walk ( yes he does walk on a leash) he lives in a fairly constant environment - summer or winter.
🐰Spring is coming! 🐇

Kicks...if Spring is coming for SD then there is hope for most of the lower 48. Now that you mentioned Geese heading north, I've noticed that there are fewer of them feeding in ponds and on golf courses near my home.
-
Feb and Mar ars our snowiest months but Feb didn't give us much- basically there is no snow on the ground so not good. Considering we are already considered to be in a 'Moderate Drought' - not good for hay and pasture plus the potential for fires this summer. We've already had some grassland fires but fires in the Hills (if they happen later) are a lot worse in drought conditions continue/worsen.

Nasty storms here tonight after 70s today. Found this picture from last year to remind me that spring is almost here.
Scottie

Beautiful Scottie! We've had a very mild winter here in Southern Indiana and I'm itching to start my 2017 garden. I'm enjoying all of the early Spring blooming here in Bloomfield and hoping no more subfreezing temps from here on but not holding my breath
-
Hi Ladies ..Summer here has been too long , and drier than normal ..But we should be careful what we wish for ..Now big rain has set in , and meant to continue for days !!! I've gone from frantically trying to water to keep everything going , to worrying it'll end up washed away. !!!!!
-
Lucy, oh my goodness! That is not good at all! I've got all my tomato and pepper seeds in their little pots to get a good start on their growth. Hopefully they'll be ready to go in the ground when the ground is ready.
Not much snow here in Indiana but the temps are really cold!

The weather is crazy down here. We're about to have a hard feeze. Everything is blooming, I have 100 bales of pine straw in my driveway and I have a magnolia tree and two very large holly bushes from a plant nursery in my garage to keep them safe for the next two nights.
And yet, it's going to be 74 on Monday when I go in for my surgery. Hoping Dh can get the trees and bushes planted over the weekend, although we have a laundry list of things to do because I'll be out of commission for a good while. Totally derailed my spring planting frenzy and I still haven't received all the plants I ordered through Groupon.
Scottie

Scottie, I was not following the March surgery discussion so missed that you are joining that group with your upcoming surgery - is it for your shoulder? I'm amazed at all the gardening and photography and caring duties you get done with your limited range of motion. Strong women sure get things done. Good luck with a successful surgical outcome. ((hugs))

Thanks magiclight. . .I developed capsular contracture which explains my limited ROM and continued nerve pain so surgery is repair and replace. PS is confident that I will slowly get my full ROM back and will be able to lift weights again.
Meanwhile, Dh is my muscles and I'm the brains. He's pretty much been the muscle since BMx anyway.
Scottie

Scottie, wow was I mistaken in my understanding of capsular contracture. Now that I've done a bit of homework on Google I get the picture, so to speak. I think my SIL has this and has had it for many years since her reconstructions. Hardly a day goes by that I don't learn something new that replaces an earlier understanding.

Went on a business trip for a few days, left Sunday and back home last night. Few blooms on this weeping cherry when I left and then came home to this last night!
-
Jazz ..Wow !! That is beautiful. !!
-
Scottie, best wishes for a full recovery of your ROM. You can do it! 💜
Majiclight, I think we've all been there. I learn something new here everyday and even discover new things about myself.
Jazz, what a gorgeous tree! Absolutely beautiful! Our peach tree looks like it may have survived the last freeze. At least I hope so
-
Good morning- the weeping cherry is in full bloom and the rosemary bushes are covered with purple flowers. Enjoy!
-
Oh I am sooooo jealous! Absolutely beautiful
-
Jazz...I can hear the bees buzzing. I have about a dozen gigantic rosemary bushes trailing over a wall and the bees are in abundance.
-
Beautiful!
-
Magiclight- I was out a bit too late yesterday and needed to prune one back a bit (did not finish it last fall) and they were totally covered with bees. I finished the pruning early this morning before it warmed up and the bees came out.
I have a lot of things in my yard the bees do love. It makes me happy to see them thriving here. We know they are in trouble.

Beautiful! I love flowering shrubs.

jazzy .. Beautiful photos ☺

Everyone~
It's such a delight to see what's happening in your gardens! Right now my garden is buried under 30 inches of snow. I hope this keeps the drought away; last summer my well ran dry for the first time ever. Mulching was invaluable.
I just set up my lights. This week I will start my pepper seedlings. Last summer gardening was tough because I did 5 weeks of rads in June-July. I am going to get the garden and myself back into shape this summer!
I can't imagine anything being more healing for our minds, bodies and spirits. Enjoy every minute, friends.
-
Cannot wait for my garden time. Good thread! Thanks.
-
Gardengypsy- I finished rads four years ago around this time. I had to do some limited gardening that first spring to summer, but will say it will definitely help to heal you from all you have gone through. By the following gardening season, I was able to do a lot more. Being outside, with nature, in our gardens with the bees and the butterflies is good for what ails ya! I had a much greater appreciation for my yard and gardens after going through bc and how it helped me to recover.
The good news folks for those of you with too much snow still on the ground is that tomorrow is officially the first day of spring here in the northern hemisphere. Hoping your snow will melt away and nourish everything with it's moisture and you will all be in your gardens soon!
-
Jazz, come on Spring! beautiful pics! Have you heard of Mason Bees? From what I understand they live in holes in wood and are not stingers. My DH is saving some stumps of wood to put out by my garden to attract them. He has a lot of holes to drill! I agree! Getting out in my garden last year was very disappointing. I grew more weeds than vegetables! Bring on the birds, bees and butterflies 🦋
Gypsy, 30"?! WOW! We didn't get any snow here in Bloomfield IN this year. I don't think the ground here got a chance to freeze.
Bluebird, I'm with you! I'm waiting on my Lenden, crabapple and dogwood trees to bloom.
I'd love to get a flower bed in this year but I don't know where my DH will find a place to put in a new sidewalk lo
-
Jazzy...beautifully stated sentiment about spring.

Jazzy~
I completed my seed order today, a little late. I've decided to try to curb things just a bit.One variety each of tomatoes, peppers and broccoli, instead of 3. It may be more enjoyable to not push things to the max this year.
I also splurged on a few other things - some nice pots and new clippers. Because I have CIPN in my legs, I also bought a garden kneeler thing that has an alum frame that you grip to get back up.
Bring on the sunshine. I am ready!!
