D&C / Possible uterine cancer due to Tamoxifen
Hi all. I have been on Tamoxifen for almost 3 years. My lining has thickened to well over 14 mm, and I have at least 8 polyps that were picked up on my last MRI. My oncologist and ob/gyn agree that I need the biopsies because of the Tamoxifen combined with a genetic cancer syndrome called li-fraumeni which greatly increases my risk for all types of cancer. I cannot being myself to be worried about the results because I just don't want to put the mental energy into worrying until I know I have a reason to. I have lymph nodes on my elbow that are not looking normal, and I have to pick and choose what to lose sleep over at this point. I am unsure as to what to expect after the D&C. I googled it but all kinds of varying horror stories came up, and I was hoping maybe someone could tell me about the procedure. I just turned 50 (diagnosed with BC in both breasts at 46 Stage IIB). Chemo and Tamoxifen seem to have thrown me into menopause, but I was wondering about the amount of bleeding after the D&C. My gynecologist spent quite a bit of time telling me how worried he was about the situation and the possibility of cancer but didn't give me much other information. (He was concerned I wasn't "taking this seriously." I'm not in denial but with the li-fraumeni, I can't fall apart every time something pops up. or I would spend my entire life just waiting for the cancer to come back around.) I would appreciate any information about the after effects of the procedure. Will I be back on my feet right away? Thanks for the help.

Jsilb I'm glad u started this thread. I'm one step behind you. I meet with my Gyne on the 28th to discuss D & C. same story, tamoxifen thickened lining, polyp etc. I'll be watching this thread closely. Thank You.

70Charger, I hope everything goes well for you. Hugs

JSilb - I had a D&C 2 years ago because of heavy bleeding, I was not on Tamoxifen at the time. My procedure went fine, I had some cramping, uncomfortable feeling for a few days after but nothing significant. I understand the reason you are having the procedure is different than mine but at least wanted to share my experience with a D&C procedure.

Hi JSilb,
I had a D&C two days before my mastectomy. I had no pain and no bleeding. My Gynecologist gave me a prescription for pain meds that I could use if I needed them. I know some women bleed afterwards. Just take it easy for a couple of days afterwards and NO heavy lifting for a couple of days. I hope this helps.
I had pains in my lower groin area and my gynecologist also found a thick wall. My results came back inconclusive. Great Right? The gynecologist thinks the results may have been misleading because of the chemo. I told her I was done with chemo in September. Now here it was January. She told me to come back in three months for an ultrasound. Still having the pain, but not as bad. Funny thing is when I was doing chemo I had no pain.

JSilb, I had a D&C done for VERY excessive bleeding, including giant blood clots 13 years before my bc diagnosis. Obviously I was not on any hormonal. The doctor said it was something that happens to peri-menopausal women. Not saying what you're experiencing isn't an effect from Tamoxifen, but just that it can happen anyway. Best wishes!
Edit: Recovery was easy. It just amounted to getting over the anesthesia. No pain whatsoever.

I know better than to google anything at this point, and I am so relieved to read your experiences. I'm not worried about the results at this point, but I didn't know what to expect from the procedure I feel better now. Thank you!

Thanks so much. I am not worrying about the results, just the after effects of the procedure.

I went down this rabbit hole of screenings for post meno bleeding/ uterine thickening (3cm no less!). The first time I did an ooph and d&c. No big deal. Back to normal in a couple days. Moved onto an AI. Could not do joint stuff. Went back to Tamoxifen and had the bleeding start again within a year. Another benign biopsy. The gyn wanted me to do another hysteroscopy. Instead I asked for a hysterectomy. I'm three weeks out today. It was an open total hysterectomy, I spent a night in the hospital. I'm feeling really good now, and it is great to check one more worry off the list.

Had a D&C a few days prior to my lumpectomy, for a uterine polyp. Minimal bleeding for a day after. Minimal cramping for less that a day. Not a big deal. Fortunately the path was benign. Never was on tamoxifen. On anastrazole only. No recurrence of the polyp.
