March 2017 Surgery

Hello!
Well I have survived my BMX....I was in the hospital Friday though today. I HIGHLY recommend the pain ball (nerve block) if you can get one.
HUGE help with the pain.. my right side one fell out and was leaking all over the place so I can tell you my left side was comfortably numb and I had pain in the right once the tube fell out. I couldn't sleep Friday night due to a noisy roommate and the leg things that blow up and well I was just wired.
They kept me in until Sunday because I was having issues with low blood pressure. They sent me home with a bra that zips in the front and looks like a corset.
Pain was more pronounced today. I was also surprised to find out no ice. My surgeon said with a nipple sparing procedure it can cause the area to turn black and even the skin may die.
Two things shocked me....One I didn't realize that the pain block goes in before surgery ...was not too bad. I also didn't realize that the dye they inject gets injected before surgery as well. It felt like the nulasta shot going into the boob! I was pretty drugged up at that point I remember getting the left side done but not the right, I can't remember much.....Dr said I was chatty Kathy .....hope I didn't say anything to embarrass myself. Right before the mask went on I asked if we all could say a prayer together and we did. I don't think mine made sense I don't remember exactly what I said except I ended it see you on the other side ?!?! lol My friend said that was an odd thing to say.....I have no idea !! Oh and PS surgeon said I was telling jokes.....I don't even know any jokes!
I had a fever tonight but it has been controlled by tylenol. I called the Dr on call (not my surgeon) and he kinda brushed it off. I told him the discharge papers said to call the office if you have a fever over 101.0 I am calling my surgeon tomorrow.
The nurses were awesome! I have 6 drains and 2 tubes for the pain balls. I feel like the bionic woman. they are annoying but overall not too bad. My older son said he can't look at them they make him sick. I have to drain 3 times a day and write on chart what the outputs are.
Well as far as me new boobs go....all I have to say is wow....I have cleavage.....never had cleavage! They look good so though all of this that is a nice bonus.
I had myself pretty worked up about all this and I am here to tell you YOU CAN DO THIS! If you have any questions please let me know!

2FUN, Hope you can rest some tonight. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow, sending prayers for you.
-
GrendelDog Hi! Glad you found us. I hope that the storm subsides and doesn't delay your surgery. Keep us updated.
-
LaisSS, I'm glad you are feeling better now that the meds have wore off. I hope your recovery continues well. I saw on one of your post that you are 25, is that right? pinkskies2813, who posted on this thread a couple of times is also in her 20's and was looking for someone close to her age to relate with. I don't know if you two have found each other on another board but thought I'd mention that. I think she was trying to make some surgery decisions and wanted to dialogue with someone her age. Continue resting and getting stronger. ((hugs))
-
Hi, all. I haven't felt much like being online, but wanted you all to know I have been reading everyone's posts and trying to keep up. Recovery is going well. I feel much more like myself. Now waiting to see my onc on Thursday to see what the next steps are. Everyone here isin my thoughts!
-
Sitti!!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for that list. I know that took you a long time to do and it so much appreciated! You are the woman!
You all are so awesome. Raven you crack me up! LaisSS, love your encouraging words. Grend, are you scheduled for tomorrow still with the blizzard?
Plantchild, don't you wish someone would have recorded you? I loved how you said you were telling jokes and you don't know any!!!
2Fun in surgery today UMX... prayers.
Day 6 Post Op: I'm hanging. Although, on top of these disgusting drains, I have a chest cold, yay! I feel like anytime I go to a hospital I get some kind of virus. Whine whine whine, gosh I want some wine.
-
Seven days without washing my hair, GROSS! Not anymore!!! Yay, I put on my little shower robe, even though my wonderful :::sarcastic tone::: surgeon said I could shower away full force water under a waterfall, I chose to have some protection on my gaping 40 inch open steri strips and ridiculous drain pipes. Aw it's so nice to have clean hair.
-
Just finished nuclear medicine injection. Thank you all for advice for numbing cream. Felt almost nothing. Doc also very kind, worked very slowly. And I had Valium on board. Surgery tomorrow.
-
11 days post unx. I'm doing pretty well. Was completely off pain pills by the week after. Today Is the first day without even over the counter medicine. Had my drain out 8th day which helped decrease the muscle spasms tremendously. Now feel like I have a huge sunburn on my front and around the back and when I move it hurts. But the pain is manageable and mostly annoying, like a sunburn. Still need to take it easy and not do to much. Did absolutely no house work the first week and just sat in a recliner. I'm only 40 and somewhat fit. Can't wait to get moving again. Have to do radiation and will find out about chemo on 23rd. Waiting on the mammaprint test.
Hope everyone else is recovery well.
-
had UMX this morning. Started at 730am and was in my room by 1030am. Had to take pain meds (didn't need for last 2 surgeries). I realized how much I use my Right arm to maneuver in bed!LOL. PS was able to place expander between skin flap and pectoral muscle, since I lift for work, this will be good. Too tired to mention you all individually, but I'm thinking of yo alll. We can do this!
-
Thanks lots for going through the list of all of us Sitti. On the one hand it sucks that there's so many of us, but on the other hand it's nice to not be alone. Hope everyone continues to do well. Plantchild I hope your fever is better. Yvonne M I hope your cold gets better and not worse. I'm with you on feeling good after a shower (although not during!) and I managed to have a shower onthe 3rd (or 4th?) day!!
-
sitti. . .thanks. We had a list on each of my prior surgery boards and it helped us keep track.
2FUN glad to heAR all wentries well. Take it easy.
I got my time at preop today. At hospital at 10:15 on 3/20 with surgery beginning at 12:15. Easier for traffic but longer wait with no food or drink.

Hi everyone! Just an update. Tomorrow i have my petscan. Keep me in your prayers for a clean scan. If scan is clean my surgery to have my arm amputated is March 20th.
To all those who have had their surgeries I wish you a speedy recovery.
-
DiV I think of you often and hope all is good with your pet scan and that surgery goes well. Take care
-
Grendalwald and MariH, in your pocket for tomorrow. Grendalwald, I had alnd. It wasn't bad. I had a drain for a while maybe a week.
-
Oh DiV, prayers for peace for you.
-
I'm 5 days post lx and SNB and felling OK. I'm using Tylenol extra strength during the day and the percocet at night, to ensure a good nights sleep as it makes me very sleepy. Today I noticed a sloshing sound in my breast and was a bit scared I would need drainage, but read in some other treads that it is common and nothing needs to be done as the body will absorb the extra liquid over time. It's because the body does not like empty spaces and fills the cavity where the breast tissue was removed with liquid. Just letting you know if it happens with someone else there is no need to panic.
I got some nice button up shirts at JC Penny on clearance for about 12 dollars each and a hoodie for 8 dollars. They are soft and are serving me well.
Sitti - thank you for the list. It's amazing how many of us there are : (
Yvonne - Congratulations on the hair wash. It really lifts our spirits to feel clean.
plantchild - hope you are felling better and that your fever goes away. I would call, the surgeon about it, just to be on the safe side.
Mari H and Grendel - hoping the weather won't impact your surgeries. In your pocket tomorrow. Let us know when you can how it went.
DIV - will have you in my prayers for a clean scan.
-
DIV, prayer for peace and strength coming your way!
-
thanks for the tip on JCP, I am plus sized, so I got some nice flannel shirts from there in the men's dept.
-
Hi, thank you all so much for the prayers! I really appreciate it! Everyone is so wonderful and thoughtful!
-
DiV, You have been in my thoughts and I'll be praying for a clean Pet Scan as well as peace.
-
Thinking of you today, DiV, as you get the scan. Thoughts to all getting surgery today.
Today my hubby is back to work and I will be alone. I'm feeling so much better than I thought I would, relatively speaking, of course. I'm not using any pain meds and can move around fairly well, albeit still hunched over until I see the surgeon again on Friday. Last week I was just home and took a two hour nap after my first shower. This week I can shuffle a few laps around the house and nag my children without stopping to Leann on something. Progress happens and it gets better. Slow and steady everyone
-
I just had a long post and it disappeared! I'm glad I was able to put the list together for us. I was without my computer for a week and was trying to scroll up and down my phone to figure out what was going on so I think the list will be helpful. LaisSS, thank you for your encouraging words, I think you all are amazing. 2FUN, sounds like you are doing well after your surgery, prayers for a speedy recovery. Plantchild, I hope your surgeon was able to resolve the fever and it's origin and that you continue to heal. Your post-op update made me smile as you described your joke telling and praying.
I was wondering what kind of reconstruction you had as well. Yvonne, yay for shampoos and clean hair! Sorry you have a cold on top of trying to heal. Amandab1234, lifeb4me, cdv4251992 - it's good to hear from you all and how your recoveries are doing. cdv4251992 I have read that on here alot too, about the fluid, I was told I had some fluid build up (after LX) but there was no sloshing (I think my breast is too little to slosh! lol) EastcoastTS, Jrow7, Goldie63, Wallan and anyone else I missed prayers for continued healing. GrendelDog & MariH, thinking of you, prayers for your surgeries today. I have a pre-op appt. with BS today. I have to admit, I don't usually get nervous about surgery but this one, well, the closer it gets I get a little more nervous but reading the posts from everyone is certainly encouraging and helpful. We can do this.
Each and everyone of you, named or not, are amazing, I wish I could meet all of you in person. Hugs to you all!
-
DiV, in your pocket today for a clear scan. I have read your story before and I think you are incredibly brave. Sitti, we are surgery sisters. My mx's were each unis but it isn't too bad. One TE really bothered me and the other never caused a minute of pain. Make sure your PS gives you a rx for muscle relaxers in case you have muscle Spasms.
-
Molly50, met with my BS this morning for pre-op and he mentioned muscle relaxers and a painkiller, at least in the hospital but I'm assuming I'll get a script for home. My stomach doesn't tolerate codeine/hydrocodone, not even if taking w/antinausea meds, so I would rather ride out the pain than go through getting sick; but I think the BS said the muscle relaxers weren't narcotic. My PS has proposed immediate implant, pre-pectoral, no TE's, and from what I've read it is less painful. I'm wondering if anyone here had that procedure? If you did, thoughts?
-
I had surgery 2/7 with a lumpectomy an SNB - under my arm there appears to be what is a seroma. The nurse practiconer tried to aspirate it but nothing came out. Started PT this week at lymphedema clinic (don't have it) and they are not sure what it is ? They say the texture is a little different than seroma and it disappears when I sit or lay in different positions. It is also hurting my pectoral muscle - any thoughts?
-
Hey everyone:
I am home, resting from surgery. Sore a bit and bruised. No shower until drains come out and it looks like it will be another week or so. Its been a week already, so my hair... I look rough. LOL.
I am just very tired. I apparently was sensitive to the anaesthetic - couldn't stop shaking for several days. I was tested for infections. The shaking has now stopped and I am just really tired, but feel like myself again.
Followup is next week for pathology.
