Ah, memories, memories, Wren! I lived in the U. District (across from Health Sciences) for seven years. It took months before I realized I could see Mt. Rainier out my living room window! My first six months there were incredibly gloomy, until we went back to NYC for Christmas vacation and got snowed in New Year’s Eve at a friend’s house in Queens. From then on I decided that anything I didn’t have to shovel or scrape off my car was fine by me. (Though we did have a freak 12+" snowfall my first January in Seattle—had to use a flour scoop to slowly dig my way through snow before I could fully open my second-story outdoor-entry apartment door). Never even dealt with a “frog-strangler” heavy thunderstorm till I moved here 7 years later.

Oh Puffin. What a tough time you are having. Perfectly normal, but that doesn't help the heartache that is even more painful this weekend. It doesn't seem possible that it's been a year already.

We had our first "normal" day yesterday. We went with friends to one of the best hamburger joints in Texas, Alamo Springs Cafe. It's near Fredricksburg, up in the Hill Country, out in the middle of nowhere. Giant burgers, wonderful onion rings!

    image

We always take the backroads and enjoy the scenery on the way. There are ranches with cattle, goats, or sheep and picturesque old houses and barns built in the late 1800's and early 1900's. It's too early for lots of wildflowers, but there were a few bluebonnets here and there.

    image

On the way back, we stopped at the Bergheim General Store that's been in business since 1900. The floors (all original) are creaky with dips in places. They have all the original showcases for goods as well as the old cash register, scales, and even the bookkeeping system. It's a card catalogue with names of the families in the area and all the order tickets with prices. How fun it was to look through and see what people bought then and the prices too. You could buy everything at the general store. Over the years they've added a front porch, but otherwise it looks just the same.

It was great to spend time with our friends Pam and John Fosdick and to have an adventure, for a change. It's so wonderful that Mike is well enough to do these things again.

The Hill Country is really beautiful. I remember stopping in a town settled by Germans. Luckily DH spoke enough German to order the gas. We would go to the Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair and camp in the park nearby.

Sandra - what wonderful news. Your road trip sounds fantastic. My niece sent me pictures from her place in Stockdale and all the wildflowers are blooming. A bunch of my neighbors are putting together a day trip next week to Brehnam & College Station, but I'll be far away. So glad that your DH can get out & about.

Hope you have a wonderful time in Hill Country. My Dad lived in Fredericksburg, so was there many times. They are the B&B capitol of Texas , I think. Also went to a wonderful B&B in a little cross road of Doss TX, Quiet Hill Ranch. Many happy memories there before my daughter passed. At least you won't have our blizzard. So happy for you.

Hi Ladies, Yes it's me. Popping in to wish everyone well. I see a lot of new people and some of the "old" ones, and then there is Chevy--who stands alone--and well deserving. I see all the hurt going on and I feel bad for the ladies who are going thru a bad time. And of course "Illinois lady" always filled with wise and deep thinking words. Always loved that. And still feed all the cats, how very thoughtful. I lost my Katie about a month ago and really miss her. But we couldn't let her suffer. I think of u often and I still have prayers for u, now the newer ones too. And I still have my home job, I thought for sure I'd be fired in no time. but here I am not reading my own writing and not understanding any accent that call. Nothing has changed that way. This is a wonderful group of ladies that can come here and vent, rant and just talk. And Chevy where are u? We need to have a one on one, just because I said so, no other reason. I haven't told anyone to "shut up" in a while. so it's badly needed.

We collect data, things, people, ideas, profound experiences, never penetrating any of them. . . . But there are other times. There are times when we stop. We sit still. We lose ourselves in a pile of leaves or its memory. We listen and breezes from a whole other world begin to whisper.

Cammi, how wonderful you finally came to sit with us a bit. Those who we care so much about are always missed if they don't come and "pester" us into a bit of a more exciting life. I am so sorry to hear about Katie, but sometimes we need to help our friends go find that beautiful bridge where they can play and romp again -- and of course, wait for us to retrieve them. Until them some marvelous ANGELS just designed for the purpose will give loving care and attentions to our very bestest friends.

Cammi, I so hope you keep coming. We all need what you have to offer --- oh drat, where is that Chevy now, huh !!!

Puffin, I hope you got through your very sad remembrance day. I learned ( after my mom and dad passed ) to dread the FIRSTS. The first birthday, Christmas, Easter etc. and of course for you, the day the accident that took Lew occurred. It is painful to lose someone when we don't expect to -- when we think of life, we don't consider when it will end -- just that we have it. I hope this will, in its own way, help you prepare for any of the rest of any FIRSTS and any of how those things that have to happen to help us adjust. Many thoughts and cares for you.

Sandra and Mike -- what a great story of your hill country. What a fantastic milestone to have. I'm glad these blessings are coming your and Mike's way. Who'd thought, huh !! Mike does look fantastic and so do you. Hoping for more of these fun things to find their way into your life. I can't think of anyone more deserving.

We awoke to some snow, but not of a lasting quality. it has stopped already before noon and will likely turn into rain this afternoon. So, fingers crossed that our three dustings will be all we will get for the year. I love a good snow, but this yr. just wasn't the yr. for one I guess. So, now -- I no longer am interested. I would just as soon mosey on into full Spring.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

We have 5" on the ground here by the lake, but we could get up to another foot through Wed. thanks to “lake effect" due to winds turning from W to NE. While accumulation estimates can be fairly accurate if they're based on storms moving through in a “front" (like we had overnight and which will slam the NE tomorrow), lake effect snow is unpredictable & fickle. That's because it's caused by cold winds moving over warmer water, evaporating it into clouds and then dumping it back on to the ground…or not. Lake effect snowfall comes in “bands" 1-10 miles across that don't behave in a regular pattern like fronts do (a snow-producing wind out of the NE is not a “nor'easter," which is an actual storm). The bands form spontaneously and if the clouds are too high and the air too warm, the precip might not make it to the ground. (So a local TV meteorologist explained—which calmed me down, since I’d previously and resentfully thought that predictions of “lake effect” w/o mentioning amounts was due to the lakefront not being a large enough portion of the viewing area, as well as consisting primarily of apartment-dwellers who needn’t shovel).

The funeral home had given me an audio DVD of Lew's service. I sat down and listened to that Sunday (anniversary of his death) and found it comforting. It really was a beautiful service, some wonderful stories and memories shared. Yes, I'm now past all the "firsts" and I do think that will help.

I spent this afternoon packing for the trip, I leave Saturday morning. Have my checked bag packed, tomorrow I'll do the carry on bag, and will have to save the backpack/personal item for Friday as that's the stuff I'm still using. Have to do some searching tomorrow, I can't find my lightweight gloves for the day we're in the mountains at 40 degrees, and still haven't found my rain pants or the inflatable pillow for the 2 hour bus rides. Good to have something to get excited about and look forward to. I'll be gone 18 days, come back Apr 2.

I'll be waiting for those pictures too. Wow !!! Eighteen days to find all sorts of interesting birds. Out here in the woods I mainly pay attention to the owls. I don't often get a chance to see them -- too many trees here for them to use. Still, I love mainly listening to then. We have small birds here and I do enjoy seeing them and listening to them sing in the mornings. I stay impressed with the Cardinals, our state bird. The males are a beautiful bright red while the females are more of a dull share -- almost dull orange. The makes are deep red all over.

    So I'll be waiting too.

Cool out today but I think all the snow is gone and it won't snow anymore now. We will get some rain in a day or two while temps go back up to around the 60 degree mark. That will be good for me. We did not get much snow anyway so I'm ready to not see anymore this year.

Hoping you all have a fantastic day -- you too Cammi and Chevy.

We probably have about 18 inches or so, haven't measured it. The wind is blowing and you pretty much have white out conditions here, can't see the ouses across the street. The snow on our porch roof is curling. Just hoping the power stays on. DH probably wont plow us out til tomorrow when it stops!

Okay..!!!! Jackie shook my tree, and I fell out, and here I am! Besides that what's-her-name Cammilla B.Roustabout posted..... She must be lost. I keep looking for her, and only see her drinking on that thread! That's okay.... a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do....I miss you little Cam-era....How is little Joey? He's probably married by now, and has 6 kids, right? And are you behaving??? I hope not.... At our age.... I mean MINE, no-one would care anyway..... Hah! You lost your CAT???? Oh man, I'm so sorry....

It just hurts so much when we have to let our loved pets go.... Lacee was just like my other little girl..... So was Chevy.... He was our first little guy, and we had him for 14 years.... Lacee was only 11.... Every time we drive by the Vets, where I took her for the last ride, I want to cry.... She just couldn't go on..... She just kind of wore out, with her kidney disease, and everything else....... It hurt for sooooo long.... just don't want to get another fur-baby right now.... But I'm sorry you lost Katie.....

And another thing..... You never COULD hear, I mean understand what those guys said to you! ! Heh Heh..... You act like that is something new.... It's okay, I won't tell..... Yes I will...! Oh man, I just HATE when you call some tech support for something, and they talk all fast and like you are supposed to understand what they are saying! You want to say "can you please write that down?" like you could even SEE that..... Or like they could even WRITE!!! I say WAIT!!!! I have hearing aids, and I can barely hear thunder, so can you please speak up???"

Other than that Asthma that is almost gone, I have been fine! So shut up.......... Haaaaaaaaaaaaa..... again! There I said it..... Love you little Cam !

Puffin! Have fun on your trip..... I know what you mean.... Something will remind me of my Mom or Dad, and I just have sweet memories of them now.... They are always in your heart, and sometimes they peek into your mind!

It's really windy here! But at least the sun is shining..... Still fooling abound getting my gardens and post ready for Spring.... I feel like Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm! I'm always raking, shoveling, composting, and moving pots around.... again and again. But I think I have it pretty well ready for planting now....!

Who's Birthday was it? Cammi said something about something..... CAROL??????? Well Happy Birthday girl! How is your Mom doing?

Hope you guys out East don't get buried in all the snow! And stay warm

    Take good care gals! xoxo

Yup, it has moved from Long Island and the city, a little snow there with sleet/rain now, to the Hudson Valley and Binghamton area. Haven't even gone out to measure it, but know its over 18 inches. Got a curl from the porc roof , I'm waiting to see break off! Haven't figured how to post pictures taken with my new laptop, Took me a while to figure out how to even take them! Totally different than on my drowned laptop!

We got 8” since it started—sunny for awhile but beginning to get overcast again. Silver Sneakers instructor snowed in; my back is still sore from Fri. and I don’t have a working padlock (plus housekeeper snowed in so it’s me today for the housework, etc.) so I canceled my training session and will reschedule. Bought a Swissgear lock last night at Target but it’s a p.o.s. that won’t even close, much less lock—and apparently nearly all reviewers agree. Might go out later to buy a better one (this time asking the locksmith at the hardware store), in which case I’ll at least use the aerobic machines and the tables so I can do anti-back-pain exercises. Both our snow guy and a neighbor came out and cleared the paths for us so the city won’t fine us and the mailman can get through.

Oh I'll get to u Chevy girl.

Sandy I never thought about clearing for the mailman, and it's something u have to do. Here he doesn't have to leave his truck cuz of where our mail boxes are.

Listen Missy, I can hear just fine, it's u who can't, we all know that, it's the people who can't speak clearly that I have a problem with and that's most of them. oops politically incorrect or the truth. I'm certainly glad to hear things are good for u. well except for all the things that aren't, again that's alot. Yes it was Carole's BD and she's now 74 still much younger than u, so u still have the title---no one will push u off that so called throne of yours. But I am sorry about all our furbabies, we get so close and then they're gone. BTW Joey will be a teenager soon. Oy vey and taller than me, oh the humanity of it all.But we still cuddle and talk alot and I was asked by him not to call him my baby infront of his friends (brat) And I finished my taxes for 2015 finally now I have to work on 2016. Shut up Chevy.

And I'm still working and I've been with my taxes a lot today and sent my boss and the guys a stupid, stupid message today--I was in a hurry and couldn't think of the right words. and said She has a vibrating Box and needs a man ASAP. I heard about that of course. Filthy men LOL

OK for now, I'll be baaaaack.

Luv to u all and all the newbies, hoping that all will go well for all of u.

Oh well Damnit! I was just writing a sensational post, and in a flash it was gone.... So WAIT....Yes, I know you can hear, and that you are much younger and sturdier than I. It's that you can't talk..... I mean you talk to these men, about plumbing or parts or something, or whatever it is you do, and you screw it up incessantly.... That means "a lot"....

I thought you had a vibrating phone.... You mean you have a BOX that does that? Is that something new now.... ? Man, they are coming out with all SORTS of new things now-a-days!

And little Joey is HOW old? He IS still your little boy! My guys moved from her to that FLORIDA place, and man I thought I would cry myself to smithereens! The boys.... "My boys" were only 14 & 16..... But I just wanted them near us for forever! You are so lucky you guys are still together.... Our Grand-sons are now 27 & 30, and you still think of them as your little guys....

And wait! Those guys with the IRS are going to come and get you! Good Lord girl! You can't screw around with that bunch.... Just use your charm..... oh wait.... Just call them and threaten them to leave you alone or else!

And you think I am old? Hah! Now that is an understatement.... There ARE older people than I...... but not many....

Oh wait.... I just found a recent picture taken of myself.... last week.... even though my hair is a little messed...

    Image result for liz taylor

And I DID run across one of you taken not too long ago.... the same one you use for your phone job.... YOU know.... the "DATES R US" posted all over the world...

But I can't even stand up straight anymore---but I'm still taller than u--OK most people are. Oh and I forgot u'r "picture" that u'r still passing off as YOU, Yea I forgot we were all born, the day before yesterday, Missy.
