I was also reading all those threads about reconstruction, TEs and inplants before my surgery and befor I made final decision about will I have unilateral, or billatelal mastectomy...Some of posts and expiriances sceard me, but I also read about many positive expiriances. Filaly I had a BMX in December 2016. at which point I have TEs put in and filld with 80 cc saline. First couple of days after surgery was rough, but it gets better every day. Initially I head 4 drains, 2 was removed 4 days after surgery, and other 2 drains 3 weeks after. Drains are much more uncomfortable than TEs. For me TEs are not painful. They are SOMETIMES (but not all the time) slightly annoying. My first fill after surgery was almost 4 weeks after BMX. After that I had fills usually every 10 days, one time I waited 18 days between two fills. I had slight discomfort on days when fills was done, but was doable even withouth any pain meds, until my last fill. One evening I take diklofenak and was fine. For me TEs are not bad even in estetic way.

I also had small native breasts and want to be little biger (I'm aiming for full B). My PS say, as I'm thin, I'll have good result and decision about size (A, B, or C cup) is all mine and only mine.

Hey there! I think it is amazing what you can get through when you need to. I hated my TEs after my BMX. I wanted them out. Then, incidentally I developed a deep vein thrombosis in my neck and arm. Suddenly I was so worried about a pulmonary embolism that my TEs never bothered me again. Lol

I have had them for six months. We needed to get the blood clot to dissolve as much as possible and that took longer than expected.

Tomorrow my TEs come out to be replaced with lovely full b cup implants.

Also as others on this thread have said, I went for PT at a breast specialty place that treats lymph edema and range of motion issues. (My ins covered it.) I did not have LE but had compromised range of motion from not moving the clot arm .My arm was swollen from the clot and I had to wait for the clot to be two months old before I started. What a difference PT made! The massage the expanders which feels amazing. I also got all of my range of motion back.

Best of luck to you. You can do it.

Chiming back in since I started this forum post.

Have had TEs for 22 days! And...okay...I think I'm in the middle of the range for those who feel extreme discomfort and those who are like, meh, they're fine. However, I will say that who knows what is mastectomy related (I had BMX) and what is TE completely? I have typical issues. Burning/tingling (nerves likely), zips/zaps, stabs, pinches, muscle cramping. But ALL of this is manageable to date. I have prescip for Valium that I use when needed, then just OTC for all else. Was off pain meds completely two weeks after BMX for the most part. I have yet to have a fill, though. A little scared about that. I had an infection on left side -- a bit of a "wait and see" game at this point. Praying for complete recovery so I can start the fill process. All in stages this process, right? (sigh)

    Jumping in...

I'm nearly a month post-BMX. My TE's are basically a non-issue. They look great under clothes (in a sports bra, they look better than my real breasts did propped up in a padded bra) and ridiculous uncovered (because they're wrinkly/not fully filled and have a clear circular line all the way around). My only complaint with them is that I sometimes run into my BF with them first while trying to hug him, and that it's uncomfortable to lay on my side to snuggle. Sometimes my bra band puts an uncomfortable pressure on the lower edges of them.

Mine are on top of the muscle, which I suspect may make them less uncomfortable.
