Had lumpectomy 10 days ago and sentinel node biopsy with 6 nodes removed. My armpit feels like I shaved to close and it's irritated but the reality is , it looks fine . Just a weird sensation. Anybody have the same symptom?

I had the exact same sensation! Also had lumpectomy, but only 1 node removed for sentinel node biopsy. Saw surgeon 1 week after surgery and was advised to use an over the counter cortisone cream for relief. Used it and it helped. Surgeon & Nurse Navigator both advised odd sensations in armpit are normal & could continue for awhile. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

    Sentinel Node Biopsy

A few days after my lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy, I was alarmed that I did not have any sensation - felt numb- in the armpit area plus, the upper area of the lumpectomy. I texted my nurse navigator and she reassured me that was normal. It could take a few months for the sensation to return or it might never return. My surgeon explained this same fact in more detail regarding the fact that the nerves were interrupted by the surgery. Surgery and partial breast radiation completed within a three week time span. Margin and lymph nodes were benign. Still feeling some pain. Nextweek I meet my oncologist. My emotions are everywhere and I am accepting that this is my new life norm.

Thank you for your responses. I'm still in beginning stages of this whole process. Waiting to see oncologist and radiation oncologist. Good wishes to all

I had the same feeling after my SNB. Almost like the underarm was chafed and itchy. Yet, when I tried to scratch it or soothe them I couldn't feel it on the surface. Scratching an itch that can't be satisfied just about drove me mad. About only thing that helped was dusting the underarm with cornstarch. It help my arm move without chafing it. Eventually that feeling went away, although the numbness remains.
