Nerve Pain after SNB

I had my SNB surgery done on 2/20 (about 2 & 1/2 wks ago). I still have quite a bit of nerve pain in the underside of my upper arm and a bit in my armpit. I know it's caused by the doc messing with the nerves there, causing neuropathy. My PCP has prescribed 300 mg Gabapentin 2X a day.

Has anyone found a topical treatment that's good for neuropathy? I've tried BioFreeze, Aloe, Aveeno with menthol and a few other ointments, but nothing is really helping the sunburned feeling there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Ruby 3813. I am sorry you are stlll suffering so.

!!! I suggest losing the Aloe product. Look__

Ketoprofen-Lidocaine cream 20%-5% is supposed to be very good. There is also a Gabapentin-Ketoprofen-Lidocaine cream 6%-10%-10% that would probably be even better (but with this one the Gabapentin content must be considered/counted against your oral Gabapentin dosage limits, of course). You might wish to have one of these preparations ordered compounded for you with a base of pure olive oil so you will not have an estrogenic base to your product.

I think it that for now and the near term, though, since you have some injury and may have swelling in your tissues there, it would probably be best (for your recovery) not to disturb those tissues (as by wiping or rubbing with any creams or the like) any more than is absolutely necessary. I think Lidocaine 5% topical patches might be a good choice, besides likely a good fit there for the area you have generally indicated.

Have your Doctor and Pharmacist check for any interactions as to any drugs you are using and considering using.

I hope you will find relief and feel much better soon.

Thanks for the great info, icietla! I will follow up with my doctor about getting lidocaine patches or a rub.

I had no idea about the precautions against aloe! I've been reading on the radiation boards and it seems like 85% of the posts recommend putting aloe vera on following radiation treatments. Hmmmm.......

    Thanks again!

You are very welcome. Please do circulate the concern and that link or other example Internet search results relating to Aloe Vera and Estrogen. It was something I read in either the Alternative Medicine or Complementary And Holistic Medicine section that inspired me to do a cursory Internet search.

Hi. I had a bmx and 15 lymph nodes removed in December and have the tingling and nerve pain also. I am going to tell to my BS about gabapentin. I cant imagine having this pain forever.
