Workout got done last night. Not much planned for today except some housework
-
Thinking of you today, Vargadoll.
Subbing today & yoga tonight.
-
Ginger - glad you liked the show! A wonderful take on Shakespeare I thought.
Ruth, I still have my box of GS cookies unopened, but I did eat an entire lindt chocolate bar at one sitting last night.
Bought a car yesterday, 2016 Forester. It's very pretty and I need to spend some time today figuring out all the electronic stuff. We will give our old car (Prius) to my daughter, who is thrilled.
Been pretty lazy, finally got up and did stretch this morning, and as soon as the sun peeks through here I intend to walk the neighborhood for about an hour.
-
Ruth,
😂😂😂

I'm so tired. Keep dozing off! I've been getting more sleep the past several night and I'm more tired! Went for a short walk after dinner and that's about it. The news is on shortly then going to bed
Sweet dream

Got a couple of miles in yesterday around the neighborhood with hubby - he rolled his ankle a couple of days ago, so we only did two loops instead of 3, but it was a beautiful afternoon for a walk. Hope to get another one in today. Snow predicted for tomorrow, and more next week - UGH! Didn't conquer the car electronics yet - tried to connect the phones and was only minimally successful. Need to spend some time with the manual.
Venison Roast in the crockpot for dinner.

Did a Fitness On Demand dance workout followed by a lower body workout with a friend this morning. The cold that has been circulating around here has finally caught up with me so I am doing the coughing, achy thing.....I have a dose or two of cough syrup with codeine left over from when I was sick last winter.....I am eyeing that....maybe I should wait to see if I get better or worse before I yield to it's temptation!
-
Yesterday was fun- invited my little one's babysitter over after work and we did an hour of yoga together. It felt good to practice and share it with someone else. By the nighttime my knees were shot, though! Is the AI starting to do its number on me?
Today I had time for a two mile jog before I had to pick up the baby boy. Felt fine so not sure what happened last night.
Karen, I know what you mean about being so tired. Weather changing throws me out of whack, I guess.
Ruth, hope you feel better. Kapalabati can be good for clearing out the sinuses... do you get that in your yoga class?
-
Falconer, I've been on AI for 3 years now and I am very creaky. IDK if it's the drug or impending geezerhood.
All I know is I have to keep moving.
Had lunch with a GF yesterday but walked at noon today. The Capitol square is a pretty place to walk in fair weather. Today the sun was inviting but the air was biting so walked inside. Not a sacrifice! I love that place. 14,852 steps = 7.02 miles since last post.
-
Geezerhood sounds like the bad part of town, Badger! You're right, keep moving! 😊
-
Good walking day! Two weeks till spring break, not that I'm counting! Planning on lots of walks, try to see a couple girlfriends, dust my house, which be quite a task and get caught up on paperwork. Ask me after spring break how much I got done!
Too many wild fires in Colorado. No snow in Denver yet this month...Way below snow fall for the season so things are quite dry. No snow in the forecast for the next 10 days....we really need some precipitation.
Sweet dream

Vargadoll, hope all went well with the birth of your new grandchild. Ruth feel better quick!
One of the ladies who attends pink ribbon pilates is a retired nurse - on Al's, said to us a few weeks back, that she with scepticism, had been on glucosamine for a few weeks and she felt better for it, was less achy and creaky. So, my own little trail I've been on 500mg glucosamine sulphate and too have found it does reduce achy joints (particularly my knees), especially upon waking in the morning (I take it before bed). My husband has been on it with me and he is not so convinced. He finds it wears off (his dose was before leaving n the morning) and can sense, that near noon it's out of him, and has worn off. The online findings on glusosamine have been so - so to not so great, yet I'm sticking with it as it's cheap to buy and I seem to have no adverse side effects from taking it. Love to hear if anyone else is taking glucosamine. Today, is catch up day on course work for me, have to get lesson plan worksheets started and completed, must also vacuum up dog hair (so desiring a dyson v8 animal cordless to run over kitchen tiles and foyer laminate flooring, yet the eye wateringly high cost nixes that) and weekend grocery shop.
Have a good start to the weekend everyone!

Been trying to keep up with doing something each day. Did a yoga DVD Wednesday, then had my strength/flexibility class yesterday. Not sure what today will bring.
After temps in the 70's yesterday, I am sitting here watching fat wet snowflakes come down. Huh??? Crazy crazy weather. Think I'll make some broccoli-cheese soup for dinner. It's perfect with a salad and a couple of crackers. I have a recipe that replaces the white flour and cream with pureed white beans. It reduces fat and calories, and adds protein, fiber, minerals, and antioxidants, yet the taste and mouth-feel is still rich and velvety. It also uses extra sharp cheddar, which packs the most taste punch, so you need less cheese, and by sprinkling a little cheese on top when serving, you taste a lot more cheese than there really is. It's quick and easy, and has become one of my go-to recipes. If anyone is interested, here it is:
Broccoli-Cheddar Soup
4 servings - makes about 6 cups
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, diced
1 large head broccoli, florets and tender part of stems, chopped (about 6 cups)
3 cups no-salt-added chicken or vegetable broth
1 cup canned, no-salt-added Great Northern or cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 cup low-fat 1% milk
1 cup shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese (3 ounces)
1 teaspoon powdered mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more as needed
Steps:
Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Once the oil is shimmering, stir in the onion and and cook for about 4 minutes, until tender but not browned
Add the broccoli, broth, and beans. Increase the heat to high and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Cover and cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Let the soup cool for 15 minutes, then puree it in a blender in three batches, until smooth. Wipe out the saucepan as needed.
Return the blended soup to the saucepan over medium heat. Once the soup is bubbling at the edges, reduce the heat to low. Stir in the milk, 3/4 of the cheese, the powdered mustard, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Cook until just warmed through.
Taste and add more salt as needed. Divide among individual bowls or deep mugs, and garnish with portions using the remaining 1/4 cup of cheese. Serve hot.
290 calories per serving.

Nats- that sounds yummy. Thanks for the recipe. I am home sick AGAIN. 3rd time in 5 weeks. Waiting on a strep test. I am sick of this, it is putting a crimp in my exercise plan for sure! I do not usually get anything that is going around school. On the plus side, watching the snow fall but not having to drive in it is good.
-
Ginger-I am so with you. Been fighting off a sore throat myself. Working in the Petri dish called school can build up your immune sys, but bc treatment seemed to break that down. Boo!
-
wishing everyone a good week-en
-
This morning I did a hard interval type workout called Afterburn and cleaned the house. Still not feeling great, but better than yesterday when I spent most of the day in the recliner or the bed.
-
Feel better all you under the weather people. Knock wood, so far has been a pretty good winter for me healthwise.
After 5 inches of snow yesterday, it has turned brutally cold and windy, so no neighborhood walks for me for a few days. Went and saw a local community musical last night, Carousel. Very well performed, but had forgotten what a dark side that musical had. Today is off to the fishing show (dreaming of warmer weather), then dinner and Irish music tonight with some friends. Lots more snow on the horizon for next week. Don't forget to change your clocks tonight!
-
yoga class this AM. Saw many friendly faces coming in for the level 2 class- a class I took for almost ten years. Since surgery and rads I'm back to very beginner level- and my former classmates were asking, where have you been? BC sucks, that's where I've been.
-
But you will make it back, Falconer, and really, really appreciate it all so much more!!!!!!
I also went to yoga this morning. A friend from Facebook shared a fun hip hop routine from a program called 'Fitness Marshall". So I checked it out online and have spent the last hour dancing to some of the videos. There's a fun, flamboyant instructor (Marshall, perhaps?) who explains moves in a fun way so I can understand them "eat your cake, smash it in your face, rub in on your body", "honk the hour, switch gears, spill your coffee" etc. etc., up to date music, and he even has his grandmother (who is no doubt about my age) dancing with him in some of the songs. So....that will be a fun option for some days.
Cold here, snowy here, and l am still dealing with my own cold...blah!!!! Once I can force myself out to buy groceries, I will be in for the rest of the day.
-
The cold is here but not the snow. We usually get what Ruth's having so I'd better hit the grocery store too.
Walked at noon yesterday and with morning errands, logging 13,650 steps = 6.5 miles since last post.
Took mom out for supper last night, then we hit B&N so home later than usual.
Falconer, here's a link to an excellent BCO thread about Guidelines for Safe Exercise. It was started by our very own NatsFan and has great reliable information about what you and your fitness instructors need to know and do. I also bumped it to the top of Active Topics for you. Namaste!

Hi Ladies,
Don't mean to hijack your thread. I'm just wondering if any of you ladies had a really good body condition when you were diagnosed.
The reason I ask is that since my surgeries I had gained some weight (fat) over the course of a year. I stopped taking Tamoxifen due to SE. Now, a year later, there's "something suspicious" in my yearly mammo and I have to go in for another look in a couple of months.
Last autumn, I started a program called "Healthy Role Models" and lost 11 inches. My belly fat is nearly gone. But I'm wondering (and this is probably a very stupid question) if I reduce my body fat significantly, am I still at risk for recurrence or a new primary?
Does anyone know? Or is this one of those "cancer is a crap shoot" and no one really knows the risk...
Thanks for reading and your time.

Didn't need to shovel any snow yesterday because it didn't stick to the pavement. So later today I am going to workout. Probably will be doing a lot of shoveling on Tuesday with a Nor'easter being forecast to drop a lot of snow on us
-
hi Piscean and welcome! I was in OK but not tip-top condition when dx. Gained 25 chemo-pounds and it took three years but whittled those off. Down a bit more over the years since then and have another 10-15 to go but it's slooooow going.
Body fat is correlated with estrogen so it's good for those of us who are ER+ to keep it at a minimum.
-
Have realized it's time to join this group. I have been procrastinating about exercise as my energy fluctuates so much and pain from the neuropathy and letrozole. Seeing that exercise is the biggest thing to prevent recurrence it only makes sense. I've been good about getting my weight done, and changing my diet and struggling with the meds which are optional. Got to get off my rear and get in gear. Going for a bike ride now!
-
Hi badger, thanks for your response.
I guess you're right in that us ER+ ladies need to keep the body fat low. Do you know if estrogen negative cancer is affected by body fat?
A lovely thin and fit woman in my cancer support group with stage 1 grade 1 IDC with er/pr + her2- disease developed mets 2 years after her bmx and died within two months of diagnosis.
I wasn't really freaked out about bc until then.
I guess I'm hoping she was not a normal bc patient
-
Badger, thanks for the info. I went there but have to get supper started so reading will have to wait. You all are the best really. Thanks so much for always looking out.
-
Welcome Cloesmom, I think if you can MAKE yourself get some exercise (whether you want to or not), it will really help with bringing up your energy and help with the letrozole aches too. One of my friends started Arimidex about 6 months before me and her advice was "just keep moving" & I am glad that I did!
Welcome Piscean (are you another March birthday?). Yes, exercise is the biggest non-medical thing we can do for ourselves to reduce recurrence risk, and yes, it is important to keep the fat off because estrogen feeds off fat (that is the same reason a person should limit alcohol). I imagine that the more estrogen positive, the more important it is, but I would say it's important to all. Tumors has been known to change characteristics for reasons of their own. And, yes, even with doing everything 'right, it is somewhat of a crap shot. By following medical advice and by making life style adjustments as needed, we can improve our odds, but (like all of life), nothing is absolutely guaranteed.
Speaking of fat, I am trying VERY virtuously to take off the excess vacation weight before it finds a permanent home on my hips!
-
welcome Chloesmom, hope bike ride was fun! Do what you can, when you can, all movement counts.
LB, I am thinking of trying glucosamine. A friend with arthritis swears by it. She says it's not cheap but she waits for the BOGO sale and buys two large bottles, a year's supply. I see my onc soon for routine six-month follow-up and will ask if any contraindications.
Piscean, IDK about ER- connection but know people dx with zero risk factors except for having breasts.
Nats, yummy-looking recipe, thanks for sharing!
No snow yet but the larder is stocked. 30 mins Shop & Sculpt. Spaghetti & meatballs for Sun dinner.

Hi all: I know I have been a bit quiet here, mostly because of a crazy travel schedule, but need to be posting as I need to be in good shape for a big trip coming up end of May....today I am getting my exercise walking and chasing after grandchildren!!!! The most fun exercise I can think of...
