Best for hot climate?

Options

I live in the tropics. It's heading into summer. It's already hot.

Now I only have one boob, and pretty keen to not look lopsided all the time. I cannot get away with jackets or scarves: It's singlet weather here for 10 months of the year!

My remaining breast is just big enough that I do need something in the other side. I picked up a cheap bra today with removable cups, and stuffed the second cup in with the other one, but it isn't quite big enough. I have no idea whether cup size is universal: I thought I was a small C, but my post-mastectomy bra is a B.

I'm concerned a silicon prosthesis is going to be too hot. How do knitted knockers go in the heat?

Anyone with any experience

I'm an Aussie too. Nth West NSW and it's stinking hot here in summer. I found exactly the same thing with sizing. I was a C cup but my post mastectomy bra is a B. Though I had my silicon prothesis professionally fitted I'm not happy with it. It's a size 8. The lady who did the fitting said the 7 didn't fill out the cup properly but I find I have to bulk up the non mastectomy side with removable cups. I find the silicon breast form so hot and heavy. I received my Knitted Knocker a few weeks ago and haven't worn my silicon form since. I haven't been through a summer yet but the KK is so light and comfortable I can't see me ever going back to my expensive silicon form. Order one and try it. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Donna.

    Hi BlueKoala,

I spend a lot of time in Miami, Florida and find it too hot to wear silicone breast forms comfortably. Instead, I wear unweighted foam forms, but since you still have one breast, you might find that a lightly weighted foam form, like the Trulife Tri-Leisure form, works better. Another woman from Australia who used to post here loves that form. Her other breast is fairly large but she finds that with the right bra or camisole, this form provides enough weight to keep it from riding up. I believe she especially liked the Amoena Valetta Pocketed Camisole.

    I hope this helps.

Hi Erica, Do the light weighted foam forms work with mastectomy bras? Can they be inserted in the pockets or are they too rigid? I know you mention the pocketed camisole, so they must. But i wondered if they fold over like the silicone, or compress to possibly squeeze in the pocket hole? Thanks!

    Hi jkbrca2,

Sorry I didn't reply sooner -- I haven't checked the boards lately. The foam forms could work with mastectomy bras, though there might not be enough weight to keep the bra from riding up. I haven't found one that works for me. But I sometimes wear them in a regular bralette, since they can be worn against the skin. Unfortunately, Maidenform stopped making the bralettes I use, so I can't recommend them anymore. The lightly weighted foam forms can definitely be inserted in pockets of camisoles or bras -- they're not rigid. I think they would work in Genie or Coobie bras, which have pockets.

I'd love to hear anything that works for you!

    An update:

I got an amoena natural silicon form. It isn't too hot to wear, and sits nicely. BUT it has given me such horrid neck and shoulder pain that I have had to stop wearing it! I've gone back to the knitted knocker and the post-surgical form, and my physio is working on my shoulder for me.

Ironically, I got the weighted form because all the advice I had been given was that I would end up with back pain from the uneven weight if I didn't wear one.

I have the same experience. I'm using an amoena natura light silicone breast form. It still feels heavy to me. Sometimes I get a shoulder and truncal ache and have to take it out after a while. I much prefer not to wear any form at all, and I can get by as my other breast is small. But the silicone gives a nice breast shape, especially under a fitted shirt. I wear it on work days.

I also have a TLC breast form filled with microbeads. It's very light, but I find that it doesn't give as natural shape as a silicone form can. I use it for running and other exercises. The bra does ride up after a while.
