ER+ ladies, what do you eat?

I wasn't drinking much green tea, but now I make it daily and keep it in a container...that way it's easy to just go and get a cup or glass when we want. Dr. Oz featured several other kids of tea on his show that are good for you....white, oolong, and one other that I can't remember. They all assist in reducing belly fat, a major producer of estrogen.

Karen, make sure you add a little lemon juice.

Hi, I will be starting Tamoxifen soon and read grapefruit is something we need to avoid. I am concerned about veggie wash as I use it to wash my vegetables. It has grapefruit seed listed in the ingredients. I use like 1 tsp in water and soak the vegetables for 5 min. Will it affect Tamoxifen? Thanks so muc

Hi Pisces.
I have no idea whether that tiny amount of grapfruit in the veggie wash could be a problem but if you are washing it off before you eat your fruit I would imagine that it can't be too problematic. Still, if you are unsure, check with your doctor.
When I was first diagnosed, I became terrified to eat--I am a vegetarian so this meant I could not eat dairy, tofu, many things that I routinely ate. Meals for me were almost a torture, because I worried so much about whether it was a phyto estrogen or a real estrogen. Now 8 years out, I have calmed down. I try not to gorge on dairy, but if I have a piece of cheese, I do not panic. And while I have greatly reduced my intake of grapefruit, I do enjoy one once in a while. As Tazzy pointed out in her post, food is also social and pleasant and if we give up verything we enjoy, it will eventually get to us and we probably won't stick to it at all. So at this point, I try to go along with the everything in moderation theory.
Hope you are all doing well.

I was in the process of revamping my diet before the diagnosis, but finding out I had cancer really kicked it into a higher gear. I'm not a picky eater at all, and so these changes weren't particularly hard for me, but it did make my grocery bill quite a bit more expensive!
I shoot for variety, and try to eat 10-15 different fruits and veggies every day. Garlic/onion/herbs count as a veggie under my rules, and I get organic whenever possible. I replaced most of my coffee habit with matcha green tea. No added sugar or processed food, and very few grains. Minimal canned goods, except when I need something like tomatoes or coconut milk and can find a BPA-free option.
I eat meat and fish in moderate quantities but relatively high frequency (almost daily), and only buy organic/grass fed meats and dairy products to avoid soy/grains/added hormones and keep the omega 3/6 ratio in check. I get full-fat yogurt now because it tastes better than the low-fat stuff with added flavors and sweeteners. Especially since I'm on heavy doses of antibiotics right now, I eat a lot of fermented foods–yogurt, kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut. I try to sneak greens into everything.

Hi, I am new to this forum, but I have been reading everything I can find about nutrition for disease prevention. I am also working on revamping my diet. I was diagnosed in January, 2017 with IDC, Er+, 1/23 lymphnodes affected, 1cm tumor, Stage IIa, Grade 2. Surgery in January, Chemo (Cytoxin, Taxotere) x4 in February, Radiation in June. Just finished with rads middle of July. So now I am working on getting the lymphedema under control and revamping the diet to prevent cancer.
The link above is from the Elyn Jacobs website - many interesting articles there about diet and supplements. The one above is about flaxseed and other phyto estrogens. Another favorite article is about natural alternatives to Tamoxifen.

I have read all the posts and hope people continue to post regarding their healthy diets and new ideas.

This nasty crap I had made me change everything. Especially diet, I liked red meat (anemia), sugar and wine. Because period is gone forever, I was able to reduce meat by 85%. Sugar reduction is about 70% though. Wine is about 50% or more. I did not drink soda before
On any given day, I eat good food first and as much as possible such as multi grain rice, kale, red cabbage, carrot. Yea forgot about pumpkin. My goal is anything anti- inflammatory and bulky first. So far so good and will find out how much my blood tests improved in about a month.
