I return to the PS today to see if I will be released for Chemo scheduled for Thursday. The port doesn't hurt as much now but annoying to have it in my neck. I have a fullness in my throat that's driving me crazy. Not sure if it's related asI have hypothyroidism so maybe it's my thyroid. I'm going to ask MO about it on Wednesday doubt the PS will have any insight. My wound vac has really helped and my incision is almost closed. Ready to get on with chemo and get it behind me as much as I'm dreading it.

starting my chemo in morning! Starting to feel anxious now. First round of TC. I'm hoping I'll manage just fine x

Good luck Colly,
We'll be thinking of you! Sending prayers of peace.

I just have my 3rd of 4 round of TC yesterday, SE have not been horrible for me. Nose sores, which I just use a over the counter antitobic cream. Some mouth sores rinse your mouth many times a day with baking soda, salt mixture and constipation. I use to Stool softener daily for the first week starting day before chemo
I get premeds before treatment of Nausea med and steroid and then chemo.. The Steroids have been the hardest one me. They keep me high, high for about 2 days then I crash hard. I can not sleep the night of Chemo at all, second night is better but by that time I'm so tired I'm about half crazy. Im also sent home with the little Nelasta pump which cause some bone pain about day 6-7, I take Zertec for the bone pain reaction and it seem to work well. Did not take it first round and I had some serious bone pain. .
How many rounds are you doing 4 or 6.....I still get nervous before each treatment and then will be scared when done because I will wonder if I had enough treatment . Im starting to just think the stress is part of the process and that it will become manageable in time .
I wish you well and please check in so we know how your doing . These ladies on here have bee a life saver for me .

My PS released me for chemo on Thursday but my MO said NO😰. My abd incision from my DIEP hasn't closed completely yet the PS took my wound vac off yesterday. Really frustrated as I was to have started chemo in February but just having issues with a 2" incision that wants to stay open. I wish they could just sew it back up but it has to heal from the inside out. I'm freaking out bc I'm Stage 3 and I feel like this waiting is not a good thing in regards to the cancer growing; however I know that the incision won't heal once chemo begins. I just want to get on with this and have my life back. My neck continues to hurt since my port placement last Friday. Not sure what that can be. Just feels like my thyroid is enlarged or someone punched me in the neck (not that I've ever been punched in the neck😳). Sorry for all of the complaining but this entire journey has had so many obstacles to healing. Not ONE part has gone as my docs say it should for me. Apparently, I don't follow the norm they tell me😔 My cancer treatment center (CTCA) has an urgent care for their cancer patients, I'm going to head there today and see if I can get answers about my neck
Good luck to those that have treatment or procedures today. 🤞🏻😘🙏🏻

hi ladies. Had my first chemotherapy treatment today of TC. Wasn't as scary as I imagined but I was so nervous going in. HR and BP were so high but lowered as I relaxed. Was meant to start at 9.30 but oncologist never did up prescription for my treatment and was not in the hospital today so they had to get another oncologist to do prescription for pharmacy to dispense the chemo. I started infusion 3hrs later. Thankfully my nurse was lovely and had a laugh with a patient beside me. Didn't feel anything receiving the treatment. Got an anti nausea tablet before it started. Had taken steroids before leaving for hospital so she didn't give more, which I think I'm happy about. I'm high enough on the ones I take at home!! Feeling little tired now and minor stomach cramps which I hope don't get worse. Have another anti nausea tablet to take before bed. Drank 3litres of water today to flush me out and managed to eat and enjoy 3 healthy meals. I'm praying I don't get any bad side effects.
HONEYBEAW I'm doing x4tc. You sound like you are doing great. It's great to hear this is doable. Hopefully we all get through o.k.
WGRAF sorry to hear you are suffering. My wound in my armpit ruptured on dec23rd. I had developed seroma where surgeon removed x6 lymph nodes which use swell to size of golf ball. So painful. My nurse wound aspirate it when it got too big. To cut a long story short my surgeon questioned did she rupture my wound on morning on dec 23rd. The pain of having it aspirate that day brought me to tears, which had never happened. It began to leak loads. Ended up in.a&e. By the time I met my surgeon on dec 28th my skin had broke down alot. Was flying to lanzarote on dec 29th with a leaking wound open to infection!! They decided to apply a PICO vacuum pack that really helped for my week away. Dressing removed after 7 days. With constant cleaning, dressing and when it use over granulate having that pealed back finally helped it heal. It only finally closed weekend of feb 12th. Long journey. But with patience and lots of care it does close. I had a hole of about 1inch in my armpit at one point. Safetac is an incredible dressing to use to promote healing under dressing and airing it out without dressing when just watching tv. Best of luck

kbt- I pray you got good results on your scans. I see we get ports the same day. I am nervous now.
Colly- your 1st chemo today. Hoping you have no SE!
Bratmobile did you get your port today? I start chemo on the 7th also. Nail biting...
Jsut9802- I received my DX on my birthday also January 6! Though I am much older 64. Not fair for all you young moms to be going through this. Hugs to all of you.
Bfloswimmom - I hope things went well with your port placement.
-
Colly- sorry to hear about your trouble with wound healing. My wound was about 2" x 1". It's much smaller now following the wound vac. My breast surgeon gave me Alginate (wound healing skin) that I can place inside thbwound. She said it will heal really quickly. I don't know why my PS didn't need offer me this 4 weeks ago. I'm hoping this does this trick.
I went to urgent care at the cancer treatment center today and was given an iV for dehydration. Had an US on my neck. The tech was having difficulty finding my port and they were concerned it wasn't placed correctly and that may have been causing the neck pain I am experiencing. It appears that I have an enlarged lymph node in my neck. They are not sure if that is from my cancer or just a reactive node. Just ready to start chemo tired of worrying about every little thing. Hopefully next week 🤞🏻
-
Wgraf, sorry about your wound not healing as well. Prayers it will heal soon and you can continue with the treatment plan.
Colly, great news on first day! Cheering from the sidelines! Let us know how you are feeling later in the week.
Bluebird, today is the day for us! I am a bit nervous but ok. Got great news - my bone scan was clear! Preliminary on CT sounds promising (but the nurse navigator wouldn't go into detail until I get the report - maybe tomorrow). Should also get results of echo. I see the RO team on Friday....radiation is 4-5 months out but I like they are meeting me early. Next week is a busy one as well. With the follow-up on port, chemo101, and meeting with MO, plus starting treatment.
THANKS FOR THIS THREAD AND ALL OF YOU! We can do it and make cancer our beotch.

I'm glad this thread got started!
I had my first TC x 4 round yesterday. I'm doing the cold caps as well and honestly, the cold caps was the hardest part of my day. Right when the chemo meds started I did have difficulty breathing. My blood pressure did rise. While I thought I was handling everything well up until that point, my husband told the nurses he thought I was getting anxiety. They immediately gave me something for it into the IV and I was good in about 10 minutes.
Right now, I feel pretty normal. I'm waiting for the fatigue to kick in. Then I'll catch up on my shows and Netflix.
As far as the port, I'm ready for mine to come out. When they put it in during my lumpectomy, it was bothersome for about a week. Then it got better. Then I started running and then the pain and annoyance came back. The nurse practitioner said the running probably aggravated it since it's sewn into my chest wall. So no more running (which I didn't really like anyway) and I'll be walking and doing the bike.
Good luck to everyone! I have found so much guidance and support on these forums.

Hi ladies
Just a quick update. So had my first round of TC on Wed March 1st. So far I'm feeling this is doable. I was perfect yday. Even got out to the shops, visited my baby niece on route home and managed to cook a nice meal. Got my lonquex injection then last night for my white blood cells and I am feeling so small side effects from that. Mainly sore neck and shoulders and lower back ache. Felt tired this morning after cleaning the kitchen so had a 15min lie down and a small cup of coffee and was o.k. after that. I've been staying on top of my anti nausea tablets which is also helping I feel. I got out walking yday and today, not to far but I still felt good after it. Hope everybody else is feeling good xx

Glad that I found this thread. Just found out on Thursday that I will have to do chemo and radiation. I was really hoping to skip the chemo but my oncotype score was 29 so after much discussion with my doctor we decided it was best to proceed. Got my port today 3/3 and boy does it hurt!! Chemo teaching on Tuesday 3/7. I guess I will get a start date then. I would appreciate any advice that anyone has. Wgraf are you by any chance married to a Delta pilot? I saw that you live in Peachtree City and thought you might be. I am but we live in South Carolina.
-
what is everyone using as a numbing cream for the port
-
I haven't started yet, but they said they would give me Emla next week before my treatment on Thursday.
-
Saying hello and joining the group.
I am starting chemo on the 17th (TCHP for 6 cycles.)
best of luck everyone!
-
Carolinagirl_63 - I am married to a SWA pilot, former AirTran 😜 I got my port placed on 2/24 and it hurts quite a bit still. Did you have surgery yet? BMX or lumpectomy? My chemo has been postponed due an incision that's having trouble closing. I may hoping that I will be be cleared this week. Maybe we'll be starting together. What chemo treatment will you be given
-
Hi.
I had my first of four TC Chemotherapy treatment yesterday. My treatment was done intravenously, I didn't get a port put in. It wasn't nowhere near where as bad as I thought it would be. I think the steroids from the day before and the premeds before the actual chemo infusion made it easier. Premeds and Cyclophosphamide was about 20 mins tops, and then the Docetaxel was a lot longer at about an hr and a half. The session was good, only concern was that my blood pressure was low and had to be monitored closely. Blood pressure went back to normal by this afternoon so that was good.
I went for a outing today , to get out of the house for about two hours and did a little walking.I have been drinking 100 oz of water or more daily for the last 4 days and I think this is helping too. Still having regular meals thus far.
Also got my first of three injections today , Filgrastim ( the equivalent of the Neulesta). As advised, I took the Tylenol and Claritin an hour before, hoping for no bone pain. Will keep you posted.
No other side effects as yet and am keeping my fingers crossed.

Hope the rest of chemo will goes easy as this one.
Wish me luck xx
-
good luck to you Prue pueng! It's amazing how different our bodies react. I'd much rather eat than feel nauseated! Guess I'll find out March 7th! How long are you on chemo? Take care.

hi all, popping in from seven years out with love and encouragement. Had six rounds of TC chemo (taxotere and Cytoxan) three weeks apart, starting in March 2010. First tx is the scariest because you don't know what to expect. I didn't have a port so had IV infusions.
I had long hair that I donated to Locks of Love before starting chemo. It was free and the stylist gave me a real cute bob. Hair started coming out 14 days after first infusion. I remember walking in a stiff spring breeze and my hair floating away like dandelion fluff. Got a buzz cut a few days later - not shaved, to avoid nubs.
Never went completely bald, but kept a fine layer of baby hair. Two splurges: Nioxin shampoo and a satin pillow case. The shampoo was recommended by a friend with a balding DH and the pillowcase felt so good on a sore scalp. I went commando, meaning no wig or scarf. Got a lot of compassionate looks and was only mistaken for a man once. Did wear a baseball cap when I took walks, to avoid sunburn.
Last infusion was in June and by Labor Day weekend (early September), had enough hair to look like something I did on purpose. I have kept it short to this day. So much more easy-care and flattering.
It's been a while but if memory serves, tx cycles went like this: infusion day was a Tuesday, got IV pre-meds for nausea and allergic reaction. Wore sweatpants as knew I'd get a lot of liquid on-board and would probably need to pee. I was able to take the IV pole into the bathroom. Post-infusion was buzzed on steroid for a day or two with face & neck red as a beet. Good time to get some housework done. Came down after that and felt tired and somewhat queasy but never threw up. Took anti-nausea pills as rx, every 4 hours for 4 days (Tues-Fri) then stopped on Sat. Sun was a day of rest then back to work on Mon. By mid-week, I'd 'turned the corner' to feeling better. Got to feeling good again, in time for another tx.
I avoided crowds in general and sick people in particular. I didn't let anyone tell me stories that didn't have a happy ending.
Eat what you want, small meals to keep something in your tummy. I ate a lot of mashed potatoes and the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce, toast - was good for upset stomach. I kept saltines on-hand at all times (hunger was not my friend) and drank a lot of weak tea with milk and sugar, also ginger ale. I couldn't abide any meat but roast pork loin, which I craved. I gained 25 pounds in six months that took three years to lose. The Let's Post our Daily Exercise thread was (and still is) a great place for support and encouragement.
Took tamoxifen for five years with few SE's and now on anastrozole. So far so good! Best wishes, everyone! ♥

so good to hear from someone so far out. Thank you for popping in. I start chemo on Tuesday so encouragement is appreciated! So happy you're doing well.

WGraf Just got my port on Friday March 3rd. I have chemo teaching this coming Tuesday. I assume that they are going to tell me then when the chemo will start. I had a lumpectomy on January 25th. Ready to get started and get this over with!!
-
Carolinagirl and wgraf,
Looks like we aren't too far from one another.
Got my port Thursday, 3/2 and teaching class Wednesday. I start chemo Thursday, if all is ok with my port and echo comes back ok.
It has been sore but today it actually hurt. I broke down and took a pain pill.
Thanks for the update and encouragement Badger!
-
Hi, everyone. I agree with badger--the first treatment is scary because you don't know how it will be.
Wishing you all the best!
-
kbt - where do you live? My port is getting less painful each day. I have just come to accept that I will be uncomfortable for another year. It's my new normal.
Carolina girl - let me know when you get a chemostart date. I know you have to be ready to get this over with too. I'm hoping my MO let's me start on a Friday.
DH is leaving for a 4 day trip tonight but has to commute to HOU to start so it turns into a 5 day just like that. I'm so exhausted tonight. My 3 kids are so ridiculously busy I am dreading getting through these next four days without any help. Of course my youngest has Science Olympiad this Saturday so this week will be filled with practicing for that event. Older 2 have track meets, soccer and hockey practices. Oh, how could I forget trumpet lessons. Seriously Cancer! Didn't you see I'm much too busy for you to be a part of my life!! Go away! If only it were that easy 😜
Good luck to everyone getting chemo this week. Praying for sanity for everyone 🙏🏻
-
I am in Concord, NC - about 2 hours from Greenville, SC.
Amen on the too busy for cancer! Doesn't it know we have other things to do! And good to hear that the port is less painful.
Good luck to all starting this week!
-
kbt I hate the port. My chest hurts and my neck and shoulders. I can't bend over and pick something up on the side that the port is on. I've been taking my pain pills. Although I have to work tomorrow so I will just have to tough it out.
-
Bluebird1013, I'll have 6 cycle of TC. It sounds quite a long journey but I'm looking forward to the end of my chemo course.
Moderators, I love this site. It's full of good knowledge and support XX
