Hi, Papillon1 - There are numerous articles about research that has been done in this area. Most of what I have read indicates that fat grafting does not increase the risk of recurrence. Here's a link to one such article: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC43666...

Just wanted to note and clarify that this particular reference is to creating an entire reconstruction out of fat by fat transfer. This does not refer to fat grafting, which involves smaller amounts of fat to correct divots, hollows, etc., combined with either implant or flap reconstruction, or oncoplasty or lumpectomy defect correction

Thanks for that clarification. I have then, had fat grafting not transfer to fill out the breast recon (Diep) at the top. The area is very bruised and is beginning to feel lumpy. The P surgeon that i saw today said it was fine and to keep massaging it and I am to see him again in 3 months.

    Phew!

wintersocks - I have had a number of fat grafts, bi-laterally. It will take a bit of time until you see the true shape from the graft, it changes and usually smoothes out once the swelling and inflammation from the procedure dissipates. It can take even longer for the swelling at the donor site to go away, if there is any. Good luck!
