Post Chemo/Arimidex Brain Fog!!!!!!!!!!

Options

Hi ladies,   I am 5 years past chemo and will discontinue Arimidex (5 years) next month.  Lately my brain fog seems worse than it has been.  I'm hoping once I'm off of the Arimidex that some of it will clear but I think it's a real shot in the dark!  My memory stinks and things come out of my mouth before I really think about what I'm saying-embarrassing for sure!  Have any of you experienced this to the point that others are noticing?  Are their any natural supplements that you know of that may help clear the cobwebs???  I hate this!!!

Thanks!  Katiejane

    Dear Katiejane,

While you wait for members to respond, you may want to check out the section on memory loss on the main breastcancer.org site.

    We hope this helps!

Katiejane - I have the same problem and I hate it. I have another year to go on Arimidex and I hope that once I come off the pills I might get some of my brain back. Oestrogen loss really cripples the brain - memory has gone, concentration has gone. If I don't write everything down - and I mean everything - then life would grind to a halt in our house.

I was on Arimidex for 14 months and thought the brain fog was just chemo brain that was slow in lifting.  My onc changed me to Aromasin, but I had a 2 month break first.  The brain fog lifted within a week and has not come back, now I'm on Aromasin.

I hope yours lifts shortly after going off Arimidex too.

    Trish

Trisha,  Thank you for the encouragement!  Boy, I am really hoping this is how things will go!  I work full time as a Nurse and I'm starting to doubt I can continue much longer!

Greenfrog,  Boy, it sounds like we're in the same boat!!  I love my post it notes!!!  I do make lists and take notes otherwise I would get lost trying to figure out my daily schedule!!!  If this helps, this last year on Arimidex has passed quickly--I hope it does for you as well!!

Are either of you ladies taking any type of natural supplement that may help w/ this "FOG"?

Thank you for you input!!!    HUGS!  katiejane

I did not really notice much in the way of brain fog on either chemo or my AI, but I do take Acetyl L-Carnitine (500mg) and it is supposed to assist with brain function and increase memory function.  I have read that taking more than the 500mg a day will not produce more benefit as 500mg is about all the body can absorb daily.

Wow, now I know why my memory is so poor. Always thought it was from the chemo that I finished in 2007. I love lists and I just started to use my Yahoo calendar, sending myself emails about appointments and other important to do things. It's is great help, and I don't know how I managed so far without it. By the way, gmail also has a calendar, if you don't have yahoo.
