Recurrence after BMX and Silicone Implant Reconstruction
Does anyone know what a recurrence feels like in the reconstructed breast. I feel two bumps, and I did not notice them up until about 3 weeks ago. They almost feel like implant bubbles. If anyone has experienced something similar, I would appreciate your feedback.

My BS said that I would probably get lumps after my fat grafting and would be calling her. She said most likely they would be nothing, but just to be aware. I hope they are nothing for you.

Hi Lori, I think you should show them to your PS or BS. Small scar lumps are quite common but I would expect them to be noticed by your PS or BS during post-surgery follow up exams at 6 month or 1 year marks. I would show them to a specialist just for the peace of mind.

Always get any new lumps checked. I have had some benign ones, and one that was not benign. The only way to know fo rsure is biopsy. Most however are benign; especially if they feel like bubbles. My recurrence felt like a frozen pea.

Agree with KBeee. Mine felt like a small bb. Wished I would have dealt with it sooner. Mine sat there for a long time till I thought to remove it. Wish I had done it sooner.

I just posted under a different question, but i have new lumps around the nipple in my non-cancer breast (although that breast did have LCIS)....the surgeon says they are just cysts. Mine too feel like a little BB. He said not to worry and they would most likely go away on their own. I'm still a little concerned though.

When you say BB - do you mean like a BB Pellet or a bubble?
-
you always have a right to a second opinion. If they are firm like pellet, I would be more concerned. My plastic surgeon was 99% sure it was scar tissue. Someone had to be the 1%. It was me. I simply told him I needed to be able to sleep at night and wanted to know for sure. I do not deal with uncertainty well. He understood and did the biopsy

I know this is an old thread, but I will post here for reference in case anyone goes looking for some info on this topic (like me earlier this week). To the question of....."what could a pea size lump in a reconstructed breast be other than a cyst, necrosis or (God forbid) cancer?" In my case the "lump" was just a ripple in the edge of the implant. The doc was able to confirm this via ultrasound and no further treatment was needed. Phew!

Thank you for posting this, MrsVeryDenseBreasts! I just had my exchange surgery last week and now feel a small hard lump at the top edge of the implant. This post makes me feel a bit more optimistic that it may not be a recurrence. I will see the BS tomorrow and get an ultrasound just to be sure.

I found a small lump on left reconstructed breast, original cancer side. Located in upper left quadrant, closet to armpit. Ultrasound done and felt it was a cyst but also found enlarged lymph node. Now (4 months laterI have two pea sized lumps, one a little larger and harder than the other. Scheduled for another ultra sound .... does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Hi,
I am new to this thread. I had a BMX in April 2015, chemo, and then multiple surgeries/post-op infections. I just finished reconstruction in Dec with silicone implants. It's now February, nearly two years from initial diagnosis, and I have a lump. I had fat grafting, and the lump is near the fat. All signs would point to fat necrosis, right? Except, I had an ultrasound today, and a mammogram, and they couldn't rule out malignancy. So, I have a biopsy on Monday morning. I am terrified. I had stage 1b triple negative, and I'm BRCA 1 positive. I don't really have any questions, other than if I have cancer, how in the heck can this happen? Also, this is in the opposite breast, which didn't have cancer the first time around. I'm just looking for support to get through the week. Thanks!

HI Eschilinder, I am sorry you are facing this and hope you can find something you like to do to keep you busy this weekend. I know others will be by soon with similar experiences and provide some input. Take a walk, do yoga, watch funny movies,... whatever it is that can keep your mind positive and occupied. wishing you well

Thanks, Bevin. I will try to keep busy this weekend!
